Well, duh! Of course you have to either ignore it or say to yourself "They had it coming". How else can you , in good conscience, pucker up to big-guy's pimpley buttocks? LOL

The Old Testament tells much truth and it still applies today in many ways. Jesus came to fufill the "law of God" as stated in the Old Testament. The difference is that in the Old Testament everything was done as "an eye for an eye." These "atrocities" as you call them, are examples of God's judgment for sin. In the New Testament we are under grace which is a new covenant. God despises sin and those who willfuly disobey him. He ordered the children of Israel to vanquish those whose sins had reached its limit and also used Israel to bless the whole earth and its people. Make no mistake about it. God is a God of love but he is also the judge of the world. He does not advocate murder but we are entitled to defend ourselves and punish crimes of murder by penalty of death. The Bible says that the soul that sins will die.
You are either on God's side or you are considered his enemy. Jesus came and sacrificed his physical being in order to be the perfect once-and-for-all sacrificed to end all others so that you and I may enter the presence of God and be reconcilled to him.
The invitation is open for you to accept. You should also be part of a Bible believing church so that you may learn the word of God and have the rest of your questions answered. Christianity is not a false religion filled with false claims and myths like all the others. It is about knowing the one true God and actively doing his will for your life. That is the long and short of it.
Mr. M "atrocities."

No, because the Old Testament has little to do with God, it being the work of people whose minds were filled with blood. But you may read "Rational Spirituality", an entirely logical account of God and the UNiverse, on the Dhaxem website, and find out why people who read it believe that God deserves to be loved.

When you live for Christ--you live by the Word--the whole Word! What's the difference between the Old Testament and the terrible things that happen today? We can't hate the world because of the evil that's in it--we have to love everyone and hate their sin.

The Old Testament was the nasty, brutish history of the tribes. The New Testament specifically says that there is a new, peaceful way, without war and killing.

So, the Old Testament is history. The New Testament contains the laws.

What atrocities? atrocities that were not brought down upon man by themselves because of thier disobediance? These so-called atrocities as you call them, were done so because man wanted it that way, man kind , those not following God brought this down upon themselves, The canannites for example, were a perfect example of those who rejected God and were a totally debased society worthy of God's punishment.

Now, if this is not satisfactory for you, then I am truely sorry, God's judgement is final, if you cannot accept that, then in time when you meet him after your life is over, you will have no choice

Don't ignore anything. God can handle the criticism, but I believe he is a just God. I don't judge him, and neither should you. Ask Him what in the world He was doing, and he may give you an inkling, maybe not.

Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding.

I for one had to trust that God knew what He was doing and did only that which was required. Can you tell me that WW2 was not required? Yet it was a terrible holocaust on humanity. Since you can't show the real context of why terrible things happened in the OT, and I can't tell or your you the reason a trust of God is required. Trusting God is what Christianity is all about... compaired with atrocities of today i would say the old testament pails into insignificance as regards violence and deaths that occurred, why dwell on the past when our God is a God of the living and the things that had to be done were done for a reason

'It' did? What did the Old Testament ever do to you? The Old Testament ordered 'it'? Ordered what? You love God because He is worthy of your love and because of who He is.

What is "it" ? I love God... period. I know God knows what He's doing. He has a reason for everything that has happened. I may not know it or never know who. But God knows. Man's ways are not God's way. How can the creation understand the creator. How can we know the mind of God or anybody else as far as that goes?
