I am 36 weeks preg. and I went to the hospital two nights ago for contractions. They were a lot and they varied in pain. They couldnt get them to stop so they gave me some ambien and something else to relax my muscles. But, that didnt work either, they were still coming, it only made the pain less. They sent me home to get some sleep since they gave me ambien and I was out all day long yesterday and through the night. Last night I woke up having a bad contraction and sweating bad. I took some tylenol and went back to sleep. I woke up this morning and they are starting again. When they did check me the other night they said that I was thinning out and soft but I hadnt dilated yet, but my cervix was in position for labor. I know when they start getting stronger and longer that it could possibly be labor but how can I try and get them to stop? I want to try and keep him in there as long as I can. Has anyone went through this and how long did it take before you actually started labor?

yes...I actually went through the same thing....starting at about 34 weeks, I would start contracting and have to go to hospital and get a shot to stop labor. By 36 or so weeks along, I thought I was ready to just go ahead and have her!!! Luckily the doctors wouldn't let me, because of all the risk that can occur in babies born too premature! They told me to lay down and relax as much as possible....drink lots and lots of water...being dehydrated can cause you to start contracting! I ended up having my daughter at 38 and half weeks!! Good luck and remember....it will be all worth the wait once your baby is born!~

Im 37 weeks pregnant now and that exact same thing happened to me when i was 36 weeks, but they gave me a stress test and an IV.

I have found what helps is if i drink a big class of cold water and lay down on my side for a while they ease up or if i take a bath. Also just sitting indain style on the floor where my bed is and resting my head on the bed.

It sucks to be in so much pain, Im dilated and the baby is in position has well.

Drink more water it really helps and sometimes i eat ice cubes!!

I had contractions like that with my second. Started at 27 weeks, they stopped labor with nifedipine. They took me off at 36 weeks, I had STRONG regular contractions every day. (to the point where I couldnt walk) they went on for hours. My baby didnt come until I hit 41 weeks. I do not wish that on anyone, it was awful.
If I had any idea how to stop them, I wouldnt have been in pain for 3 months. Follow the docs advice, drink water, lie on your left side, if that doesnt work then change positions, move around, sometimes the contractions will subside if you do that.
Good Luck and hang in there! You dont have much longer to go now.

I am had two children both came earlier than expected. My doctor tried to send me home when I had contractions...my baby arrived 6 days later. I feel the pregnant person knows best. If the contractions are harder and stronger than before my advice is to get checked again. I dialated within 6 hours with my first and 5 hours with my second, so it is very possible. Best of luck!

With my second pregnancy I had contractions for most of the Third trimester. I was in the hospital twice with false labour. I ended up carring my daughter 11 days past my due date and I need to be induced....So everybody is different. Less physical activity would be the route I would go if you want the baby to stay in longer. But that is no guarntee, I am wishing you the best of luck.
