I know that for two thirds of the year, certain runways get used because of the prevalent head winds in the UK, but they have always alternated the take off and landing runways in the past, with the switch normally taking place at about 3pm (so they will fly over one area from 5am till 3pm, then fly over a slightly different area from 3pm to 11pm). However, planes have been flying over our house now from 5am till 11pm EVERY DAY for almost 2 weeks, and I'm starting to lose my sanity!! Can anyone explain why the system has suddenly changed, and is there any end in sight???

Whatever the reason I hope it stays like that - Sorry Jackie but I live in the other direction and its been peaceful. Seriously I wish they could decrease the flights at Heathrow - and where do those ones come from that fly across at like 3am ?? I thought there were no night flights !!!

Listen Jaki im a pilot and the 747's and A340's that take off at heathrow need a long runway to get up so the runway they use has to always be the one with a headwind because the more wind there is coming from the front the more airspeed is already on the aircraft thereby creating less runway for it to take off. The opposite is also true takeing off downwind will increase the runway length needed to take off so in my opinion the wind has been coming from the same direction for the past 2 weeks

hopefully this is the case otherwise they are just out to get you
