I have to say I find some of these answers amusing. But not the question, the question has merit. I had pies at my wedding over 2 years ago. that's why I find those answers amusing. I had pies before it became a trend, hmmmm does that mean I am a trend setter?
If your not a fan of cakes I don't recomend the cupcakes. the pies were a huge hit at my wedding, but alot of people are doing donuts and other things like chocolate covered strwberries. those would be easy to feed to your spouse, and you can order them online decorated to look like the top of a wedding dress or tux. try to have a grooms cake though for anyone who does want cake.

You might not be a fan of cake, but your guests will expect it. How about individual cupcakes? You can get nice tiered trays and put the cupcakes on them at the tables, and they make great centerpieces. The frosting can match your wedding colors, and you can have a variety of funky flavors. It'd be perfect for a casual wedding. And you and your groom can cut a cupcake, so you're still particpating in that tradition.
If someone recommends a chocolate fountains, don't do it outside. Bugs fly in the chocolate.

I fancy this cake from a place called Alaska Silk Pie Company. It isnt you typical cake, in fact, its more like cheesecake, but with a twist!! Besides the fact that it is absolutely TO DIE FOR, it isnt too expensive. You can order it online and it is shipped direct overnight to you!
You can also do cupcakes, cookies, or a variety of other treats if you truly dont want cakes. A friend of mine didnt have cake at her reception. She had about 20 different treats that the guests could choose from.
Congratulations!

I went to a casual outdoor wedding once where the cake was actually three layers of rolled towels where each layer had a suprise in the middle. The top one had a present for her, the middle had a present for him, and the bottom had a gag gift for both.

Have you ever seen a Piece Montee? It's a French wedding cake which is not a cake, but a pyramid of these delicious round, creme-filled pastries. The pyramid is huge (Celine Dion had the biggest one I have ever seen - it was like a one story tower). It's a big dramatic moment when the "Piece Montee" comes out and it is topped with sparklers too.

This is still along the lines of cake, but I went to a wedding where they had hundreds of cupcakes instead of a cake. Also, you could do chocolate boxes or something like that.

The Chocolate fountain is awesome!
also- At my wedding, next to the cake we had different fruits dipped in white and milk chocolate. The caterers even made the milk chocolate look like little tuxes and the white chocolate look like little wedding dresses. It was wicked good and our guests got a kick out of the decoration part of it.

I didn't have a wedding cake, hate that fakey cut the cake thingey. Had traditional Ukrainian wedding breads as centrepiece, and handed out wrapped fruit cake for everyone to dream on.

I have seen a couple of different things. The first one is a cupcake tier.
http://chicagocupcakes.com/custom.php
Another one is a cheesecake tier:

Or even wedding pie
http://www.achatzpies.com/weddings.php
And also Piece Montee (pastries)

Or you could just do a chocolate fountain:

Hope this helps you out. Wedding cake is actually going out of style and a lot of times you see wedding cheesecake instead. Hope this is what you are looking for. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Cake made of ice cream or fruit. (Can do 3 or 4 tiers so it looks like a wedding cake). Ice cream you can have done by an ice cream strore. For the fruit, if you want to do it yourself, use watermelon, cut off the ends, then decorate it with berries, grapes on toothpicks, etc., on the sides, and fruit on top. You can cut shapes out of fruit, such as hearts, flowers, etc. and attach with toothpicks or kebob sticks.
