Uninstalling your operating system is very dangerous considering its what runs your computer. There is an option for this on your system disks.

You need to create a DOS startup disk. Use windows help to find out how.

Once you have your start disk, put it in the floppy disk drive and reboot your computer.

It will load from the floppy disk (assuming your bios is setup correctly - see my note at the bottom about this). You will be prompted to start your computer with OR without CD rom support. If you just intend to wipe the drive then start WITHOUT cd rom support. If you wish to install another operating system without restarting the computer then choose WITH cd rom support.

Once you get the command prompt (A:>) then type this: format c:

It will wipe the hard disk of windows completely. Be warned that if you have any documents, MP3s videos etc on your windows drive they will also be formatted and lost. MAKE SURE YOU BACK-UP ANY IMPORTANT FILES.

Once this is done you can then install a new operating system (assuming you chose to start WITH cd rom support - if not, simply restart and choose WITH cd rom support).

BIOS/FLOPPY DISK NOTE:
If your system does not boot directly from the floppy disk then you will need to enter the bios when you reset your computer. Press the reset button and start tapping the DEL button. In some cases this can be F2. You should look at the POST screen for a line that says "Press ?? to enter setup" - OR SIMILAR. Once you have got into the bios you will need to change the boot order of your computer motherboard. It is usually in startup options however it may also be found in the power menu, advanced menu or device menu. I recommend the following start order:
1) 3 1/2 floppy
2) CDROM
3) IDE-0

I hope this helps. If you like my answer, please vote it as the best.

most of the time ,a user will never uninstall windows, you will either upgrade or format the drive
the main reasons for this is a) a infection)virus, spyware) b) a corrupt operating system i.e some file has totally screwed up your ystem and even after system restores the p.c is still unworkable and c) sometimes you just want to re-install windows as you may have had the previous version installed for 3 or so years and it has started to act a bit sluggish
good luck

windows can't be uninstalled, if want to replace windows for another operative system save your data, like music, documents, etc in a cdr dvdr, usb memory, etc. Put the disc of the new operative system and restart your pc and follow the instruction. Now if you want to reinstall the windows put the cd of windows in the cd rom restart the pc and follow the instructions.

How do you upgrade Windows? Or are you really going to remove everything from the hard drive?

If you are planning to removes everything from the hard drive. Go to Command Prompt outside Windows and type in format C: . You can't just un-install Windows because it won't work that way.

If I were you I just wouldn't bother! I would completely format your hard drive. It makes thinks much simpler and cleaner. Windows does not clean itself up well (as it is a Microsoft product).

Also when formatting look into getting a "drive eraser." It will give you a much better start when reloading a new OS!
