Depending on what you did 5 years ago will depend whether it can look bad!!
If its a serious offence involving any vulnerable group then if it goes to court your pre-cons can be assessed when it comes to sentencing.
The Prosecution will already be aware of your previous offence so it really is based on seriousness and public interest whether a stiff sentence based on your current offence and relationship with the previous would hopefully make you think twice now about doing the same thing a third time!
Ultimately, as with any court case, the sentencing lies strictly with the judge or magistrates
Maybe now you will take responsibility for your offending past and present...nobody owes you a living or redemption if you continue to break the law!

Of course it looks bad. Anytime you get convicted of something it looks bad no matter if it is your first time or your 5th time.It shows that you really didn't learne anything the first time.Plus scence this is your second time of the same thing your punishment could be harder then the first time.

Welll Duuuhhh.
But thanks I laughed for about 3 minutes straight, so thankyou for brightenning my day!!! I'm still laughhjonln,l;,ph. luhg...
I'm sorry, that's cruel. I'm alright now.
Actually I think it depends on the offence and when it is regarded as a spent conviction. I think this varies so you might be able to have it excluded when considering sentence.
But yes, generally speaking, if it as admitted as evidence during either trial or sentencing it looks bad.

Agree with a few on here depends how bad on the richter scale of badness it was! What was it? Some good people on here - you can be honest - start now and try to keep out of trouble!! Seriously - go ahead tell us a bit more.

Duh - of course it does - it means that you are a repeat offender, not to mention stupid enough to get caught again, doing whatever it is that got you convicted the first time. If you did something 5 years ago - and got busted - WHY would you even try it again? Just proves that "there are no smart criminals..."

Yes it most certainly could do. The police/CPS can introduce evidence of previous bad character.
The fact that you have committed the same offence AGAIN, shows that you have a propensity for this type of crime.
Best NOT to do it AGAIN!

It looks bad that you are even considering what would happen to you were you to do the same offence again!
