Economically advanced...not intellectually.

The only reason the US has an economy in the first place is that the rest of the world buys oil in Dollars. If anyone wants oil they have to buy dollars first which makes the US very rich. Saddam H changed this by selling his oil in Euros. Naturally the US saw this as very economically destabilising and a dangerous precedent to OPEC.
Invasion was the only option that they could think of and 9-11 provided the chance to do this with WMD and terrorism as a smokescreen to delude the electorate to the administration's true intentions. Al-Queda were not welcome in Iraq before the invasion and Saddam hated Osama bin Laden. Look at the place now, it is a lot worse off than when Saddam was in power. (Q) If the US really wanted to get rid of tinpot dictators, why didn't they invade Burma and/or Belarus? (A) They are America's poodles and provide the US and Europe with cheap oil.

1.I wouldn't call the US the most "economically advanced nation" considering the US is only rated #6 in the world.

2. the US govenment wasn't tricked into anything- only the troops and the public were tricked into believing anything.... (many many of us weren't fooled at all)

3. How is it possible:
1. America is not a true democracy
2. the media feeds this type of thing- the whole culture of terror thing is a way of terrorising the american public into believing that a militaristic state is necessary for us to be "safe"
3. most americans would rather watch t.v. than vote- making the govenment accountable to no one, because the public will do nothing about their "discontent"

Its scary what being comfortable with life can do...

face it. the world will not be able to rely on oil in about 40 years because it is running out. iraq has the largest untapped reserves in the world. we need to buy more time to get alternative energies going. the war helped us out economically, and iraq now has a better government. win-win situation.

My wife and I used to play UNO with my brother and his girlfriend. He use to take certain cards and make a couple of face down stacks in front of him.

He would hold on to them and pull them out when the opportunity arose for him to make some kind of "miracleous" play.

One evening, he looked to be in trouble, but we saw a familiar grin spread across his face. He grabbed the card from his "stash" and held it up, shouting "AHA! You guys thought you had me!"

We all looked up at the card, which seemed to have absolutely no play at the moment. My brother looked around at us and then looked up at his card. He lost his grin and said, sheepishly, "Looks like I faked myself out."

I wish I could say that is what we did to ourselves. Then we might back out with profuse apologies.

However, I am convinced that we would do ANYTHING to protect our access to the oil that powers our cars and power plants. We never planned to trick others into believing in WMDs and connections to 9/11.

We were tricking ouselves.

By the way, "Demosthenese," (watch your spelling) I, also read "Ender's Game."

Oil was not the reason and time will tell. the oil belongs to the Iraqi people. terror groups see it as a way of funding their attacks if they can get their hands on it

Fear.
Fear of the unknown and fear of losing what is believed to be 'theirs'....
and an unrivalled belief that our politicians wouldn't lie to us - knowingly or otherwise - that they have their fingers on the pulse and the best intelligence in the world.
