They don't seem to eat human poop. Why?

Most people poop IN THE TOILET, but let a dog near a diaper pail, and soon as your back is turned, they'll tear the contents apart, eating stuff that would gag anyone! (and spread diaper parts all over your house!!!) Dogs like cat poop, (cat food is higher in protein, and they digest things differently, so their poop apparently still has a good (to dogs) taste to it.) Try going to a horse barn where there's dogs around, and see how many horse apples the dogs chow down, then want a kiss from you! Dogs are omnivorus,(eat meat and veggies), and scavengers as well. I think it's like some deep, buried survival instinct that causes them to eat gross things. Ever had your dog find a dead animal or horse poop) and roll around in THAT, then jump in your lap??? Not pleasant, but they do that too...throwback instinct wolves used to cover their scent for hunting purposes. Dogs eating their own poop are called copraphagic, and there's a product you can get at a pet supply store to sprinkle in their food, called "Deterr" that makes their own poop taste bad to them, so they lose interest and stop. Note: It does NOT work to keep them from eating other species of poop, just their own. This is USUALLY a puppy behavior, they're digestive systems are still immature, and if you feed a lot of soft or canned food, or "Kibbles and Bits" type foods, they will not digest it properly, and it will still smell (again, to THEM) good. Stay away from that type of food, and stick with a high quality dry puppy food. Good luck!

Dogs will eat any poop they find. Our cat litter box is behind a gate to keep the dogs from eating" cat cookies". We even have our cat food up so the dogs can't eat it. They seem to like the stuff they can't have.

Dogs do not only eat dog poop. they actually prefer cat poop. a dog will eat anything that seems more disgusting to us. You obviously have been trying to feed you poop to your dog. way to go jackass.

A dog will eat anything!!! if human poop were available he'd eat it!!(you haven't tried feeding him poop have you??)

Is there human poop in your yard? If the dogs are doing that they are probably missing something in their diet.

My dogs don't eat their own poop, but they do enjoy the occasional kitty turd out of the litter box! Bon Apetit'

Lots of dogs are colorblind so when they see poop they think its treats.
