Sorry to sound rude, but if you don't want a dog inside the house, then don't get a dog at all. It's not fair to keep a dog outside 24/7. How can you possibly ask someone to watch the dog when it will be outside all day? Will they be allowed in the house or do they have to stay outside, too?

i'm guessing you want the dog to be outside while you are at work. if that's so, keep in mind that dogs are pack animals, and you and your family will be its pack...so let it in when you're home.
you did not indicate where you live. the answer might be different if you live in florida vs. the yukon. any dog that will be kept outdoors requires the following: 1) shelter - a dog house, or porch to allow shelter from sun, rain, etc.; 2) access to food and water; 3) some toys to play with (so it doesn't start digging); and 4) a fenced in yard.
regardless of your locale, i would not recommend any toy dog. a dog that is a hunting breed would probably do ok in any climate. that would include a beagle, various spaniels, and some terriers.

Small dogs can not adjust to the outdoors like a husky can especially if you live in a cold climate. If you want a dog but do not want it in the house get a stuffed animal. No dog should be left outside I don't care what size dog it is. I have 3 dogs, 2 medium size and 1 large breed and I live in a small trailer, My dogs go outside to do their business and then come back in. I do not believe in leaving a dog outside for any extended time. Why get a dog if you are not going to bond with it. You can not bond with a dog if it is outside. Dogs have feelings too.
Sorry to sound rude but how would you like to be kept outside for any length of time. It is cruel and punishing a dog because you do not want to inconvenience your house with dog hair that is just down right mean.

Dogs have become a wonderfully diverse animal.
Many of the "designer breed" should not be left outside. Dogs that stay in the heated house all winter will not develop enough coat to deal with harsh winter weather.
But the dog that lives outside will adapt and be perfectly comfortable even in sub zero temptress.
My hunting companions are housed outside for the sole reason that I think it cruel to keep a dog in a warm house so that it doesn't develop a good winter coat, and then expect it to hunt in the harshest of conditions.

I'm not sure why you want a dog if you just want him to be tied up outside all day. You said you will have someone watch the dog-aren't you going to watch it? A dog is a lot of work and commitment. You don't need a dog, and it doesn't sound like you really want one.

Don't get a dog if you're just going to leave it outside for hours on end! what's the point? Especially a small dog..they can't handle the cold or hot temps year round..Of course it's rough on big dogs too. Get a concrete dog statue!

That's kind of a silly question, where did dogs go before they were domesticated? Do you think there was a doggie construction company that built dog houses. Dogs are animals they are meant to be outdoors. Unless you live in a place where the weather drops below zero, a dog will be fine.

u dont need a dog, whether u want one or not. its not very nice to leave them outside. dogs live on attention and they need to be around people, especially the small ones. to be honest, small dogs like pomeranians get psychological problems when they are not constantly with their owner. why have a pet that u dont spend enough time with? those r the ones that give your neighbors trouble because they r always upset..because u took them in to abandon them

since small breeds were created as COMPANION breeds, keeping one outside for any lenght of time would be cruel and unusual punishment for the dog.
the only breeds ive ever seen HAPPY to live outside year round are the nordic breeds (huskies) and then only if they have other huskies/people to keep them company during that time.
rember your dog is a PACK animal, you are the dogs PACK.
Dont screw up a perfectly healthy happy puppy by making him live outside!
if you cant have a dog that live inside whats the point in having a dog!
As cruel as that sounds...its the cold harsh truth!
