I don't think many preschools have much of a curriculum for 3 year olds, it would probably be pretty similar to the play school. When he turns 4 is when it would be more appropriate to have a curriculum, and that would give him a full year before he starts Kindergarten.

I'm a teacher. All your child needs to know for kindergarten is basic social skills/rules (taking turns, sitting during a short story, etc.), and it's super-nice if you can teach him some ABCs, 123s, how to write his name, etc. Everything will be taught in kindergarten anyway because some kids don't go to preschool or have parents who don't bother to ever read a book to them. The playgroup sounds fine at this point; kids that age learn best through play and life, anyway. You're teaching him lessons everytime you talk about leaves changing color in the fall, or asking him to bring you two apples or whatever. It'samazing the burn-out we see in 7/8year old kids, who've been in formal schooling for five years at that point, not b/c of school expectations , but because of pushy parents. Yes, you want him to succeed, but for now, let your kid be a kid; don't force him into the rat race yet.

I believe it is time for pre-school not daycare. A lot of people think that pre-school and daycare are the same but they are not.
Your child is at the age of learning 3 is a great age to start a school with a curriculum. 3 is the age when they learn habits, whether good or bad. I would definitely get him into pre-school there's learning and interaction with others.

I see pre-school programs around here for 3 & 4 year olds, but anyone I know usually starts them at 4 years old in pre-school if anything. I think 3 is too early, myself, and I think they should have the time to just do whatever they want to do as a kid. I think having him around other kids is definitely good, and enough for right now.

Yes, kids learn more at a earlier age these days. Not getting a head start on school could end up with Him being left behind and once a child is behind its so hard to get them up to speed. Also being left being could be emotionally harmful. I would say give as many chance as you can. ( My little girl just turned two and she goes to school during the day, she already know some of her colors, is starting to count 1-5, knows some of her opposites and can spell her name, verbally and in sign, her name is short so that s helpful)

my son is three turned three in may. we have been working with him with phonics books since he was two. he is on a first grade reading level now. but do what you want. i am a stay at home mom so i have the time. if i were you i would put him in a school that will teach him the basics. and you can try some stuff at too. there are alot of books and movies and toys that help teach the children in a fun and easy way. good luck .

I was anxious for my daughter to go to a school really early on. However in the end I sent her to nursery 5 afternoons a week and taught her myself at home in the mornings. She is now in full time school and is way ahead but luckily not bored. She is finding school easy and can concentrate on making friends and having fun because she is enjoying the work.

At 3 and 4, kids go to preschool or Pre-K. It's a learning through play environment to prepare them for Kindergarten. I do suggest sending him by the time he is 4 if you don't want to do it now.

I think its better to put him in a school with a curriculum. You're paying for it either way, so why not make it worth your money and help his development as well!!
