Hello, I am from Kerala. As you know, Chikungunya and Dengue are spread through mosquitoes. In fact, mosquitoes breed in large quantities in Alleppy and Cochin areas, where most of the areas are watterlogged, (lakes, and backwaters). There is a limit to which we can control the mosquito population there. Only way to escape from this fever is to avoid mosquito bites as much as possible. You can use dress which covers ur body properly or use mosquito repellent creams when you are outside..and when inside your home, u can use mosquito repellents, or nets to be safe. As of today, we do not have any medication or vaccinations for CG virus, but we definitely can take precautions to prevent it. If contracted, it would cause severe joint pains, and high fever, which would last for a couple of weeks, not fatal unless you have other ailments which would get worse when added with this condition. I do not think that this should be a reason for u to postpone your trip to Kerala, but in case you want to visit any lagoons or backwaters, I would suggest you keep it aside for lil longer till this bout ends. :)
