Gentlemen

Thanks for answering my previous question viz: can I recharge battery by charger connected to the AC supply from the inverter? I have seen from your answers that although this is possible it is not recommended

My question now is: can I recharge the battery by way of a car alternator. That is, I power a rotor, say, 100watt motor that will be coupled to a car alternator, which will then charge the battery. Actually I want to eliminate the need for grid electricity in this project.

Thanks

Harry

Harry, you keep trying to come up with weird ways to provide power to charge a battery only to drain the battery through an inverter to power other things. Why don't you just buy a gas powered generator and be done with it?

Hello Harry,
Nice idea and I totally believe it will work, in addition if you use a liquid cooled diesel engine to turn the alternator and couple the heat created by the combustion to someplace that needs it such as a hydronic system in a cold home, you get almost 100 percent efficiency. In addition if the whole system is located in the cold space, even the heat of friction gets added to get you closer to 100 percent efficiency. Diesel does not usually give off carbon monoxide, but to be on the safe side vent the exhaust outside ( preferably after it is cooled ) and make a carbon monoxide detector part of your plan if the space you are heating is somewhere where pets or people are located. Fire awareness should also be of concern and this system should be installed by professionals of your choice. Also remember charging a battery creates hydrogen which is also explosive and can be converted to heat or motion.
Respectfully yours, Gabriel

Yes, u can.

but then pls consider the efficiency, like how much gasoline u r going to spend to get required power.

If at all u need charge the battery with the car alternator, the better way would be to have a dedicated generator if u want best efficiency out of Ur petrol / gas.
