...for THEIR healing. Even though one of the men said he forgave the killer, and invited the family of the killer to the community, everyone needs to pray for healing for both parties involved. Pray for the family of the killer. EVERYONE is tender in God's eyes!

TO ALL who were touched by death in the Amish Community:
I experienced a major death in MY life when almost 17. When my Aunt died, I ran, and PUSHED GOD AWAY, refusing the greater good that could have come from HER death. I didn't KNOW Matthew 5:45, that the rain was made to fall on the Just as WELL AS the unjust. I didn't KEEP IN MIND Romans 8:28, that all things come to the good of those who love Christ. I TRULY CHOKED and CRIED when I saw one father of one of the children say something to the effect of,"God would have me to forgive him. So, I do," in the calmest voice!! God WILL get the Glory. THERE IS a greater good to come from this. Because YOU loved Jesus! YOU forgave!! I love you for that!!

Yes I have prayed and one of the woman on the news is a midwife for the amish community (she helped deliver a lot of the children that were killed) said this If you have christ in you heart you forgive those who wronged you, you can either be bitter, hateful or resentful your whole life or you can let the expereince make you stronger when I heard this I started to cry. Thank you for posting this.

My heart goes out to all the families involved. And my hat is off to the people who can actually forgive that murdering SOB - I'm not that good.

But Pray? I don't think so. What would I say? "Dear God - for some reason you choose to ignore this little problem while it was building up even though you could have prevented it with less effort than it would take me to twitch my eyebrow. But, even though you saw no need to take responsibility before it happened I would like to ask you now to help all the poor suffering people who won't have to be suffering if only someone could have prevented this horrible murder. Amen."

But maybe I am missing some higher point ...

Amen! Those dear people need prayer all around. The families of the victims and the killer. God loves them all and certainly can heal their hearts. Let's not forget the little girls still in the hospital too. They've been through a great trauma that no child should have to see and go through. Remember the little ones are precious in his site.

my heart and thoughts go to the families involved in this horrific crime. No offense but I will not pray to a god that does nothing while little kids get slaughtered for no reason at all.

What about the prayers before it happened?

Your lack of action (sitting around praying), is exactly what is wrong with the world. If your god cared, he should have prevented it from happening in the first place.

In my household we're writing letters and sending them to the post office as 'general delivery to the families of the community'.

You sit and pray.

Yeah, the Amish are very peaceful peeps.
And the killer's boys. How are they gonna live up to what their father did?

What does prayer have to do with sanity in the context of your question? Would it not have been more sane to omit that part of the question?

Rather than "pray", would it not be more constructive to rationally analyze how to prevent further such tragedies?

I agree. I think that their mothers must go through a terrible time.
