Hi! Please...I have a SONY DSC-S50 Cyber-shot digital camera, and I believe it's time for a battery replacement. The model number on my battery is: NP-FM50. This battery is the original battery and it came with the camera. It's labled as an "infolithium" battery. Please, is it mandatory that I order a SONY replacement battery, in particular, or am I safe in ordering a compatible lithium battery online or elsewhere? If so, which online site is recommended? One site suggested that sometimes third-party batteries don't always work in SONY digital cameras. Sony, naturally, suggests that I use their brand of accessories. I am still quite the novice and any/all advice regarding this subject will be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

I've had luck using compatible batteries for my old Sony digicam. But I heard that the newer Sonys have a way of checking if the battery is a genuine Sony infolithium battery.
Best to work with a local seller that has a good return policy - such as Best Buy or Circuit City.
I personally buy most of my rechargable batteries from Thomas Distributing:

I've also had good luck with Battery Barn:

If I am not wrong this camera is already qiute old in the market already. If purchase a original battery it will cost quite a sum of money but from what I known using a compatible battery should not be a problem as only the newer cameras that is produce after DSC-T9 will have a problem using compatible one. For that battery only the more expensive handycam such as DCR-HC3 is using none of the camreas and handy-cam is using it anymore. If possible i will recommend u to purchase a new camrea instead.

If i'm no longer incorrect this digicam is already qiute previous contained accessible already. If purchase a different battery it truly is going to cost quite a sum of money yet from what I customary utilising a properly suited battery should not be a situation as in easy terms the extra recent cameras this is produce after DSC-T9 would have a situation utilising properly suited one. For that battery in easy terms the extra high priced handycam which includes DCR-HC3 is utilising not one of the camreas and available-cam is utilising it anymore. If achieveable i'll advise u to purchase a clean camrea as a replace.

Yes and they are generally cheaper and last longer because they have a higher mAh. You can either Google it or check out eBay to either buy them on line or to find out the web site of the company selling them. There are a lot of companies out there who do nothing but make replacement batteries for cameras, laptops, PDAs, etc.
