Juvenile diabetes comes to mind since it is a leading killer of young people. Multiple Sclerosis is a biggy. It affects so many people in so many different ways. Some go down hill quickly and are bedridden for years at the tender age of 20. Some cannot feel limbs, others have constant pain. Others vision is going. Still the mystery is the relationship this has to a parent dying of a rare form of Alzheimer's Disease, a brother dying of a rare form of Lou Gerig's or ALS all within a few years of each other. Does the male really pass this on? MS society has much research, WebMD has more and so on. All this has happened to me. I have three grown and wonderful sons, two grandsons and I have so many different study opinions and differences it makes my head swim. Good luck, Suzanne

How about Meniere's Disease? Meniere's Disease can afflect anyone at any age. It is quite disabling to many individuals who have this disease. There is no known cure for it and it wreaks havoc with the body and the mind. It throws off your inner ear balance and can cause a young person to walk with a tri or quad cane. Confusion is a big part of it, and a person must be aware of where his or her things are at all times. Just a misplaced book can throw a person into a tail spin of a Meniere's attack. Living with Meniere's myself, is a challenge most days of my life. I get dizzy spells a lot and I have frequent headaches. For the dizzy spells and nautisea I can take Anti-vert and Meclizine. Unfortunately these pills can only do so much, but they can't take the actual disease away. Once a person has it, they have it until they die.
You may be able to access more info on Meniere's Disease by Googling or other websites such as MayoClinic.com or webmd.com.
Good luck to you and your project! I hope you make a good grade on your paper!

I would suggest you choose something "you" know a lot about (so you can first write many pages then eliminate a lot and end up with a lot of facts and important things). There are lots of diseases but look for one with new results so you can be informative and current. Check out some medical websites that would provide current news on new procedures or cures or alternative methods.

Hi. How about the avian (bird) flu? People are curious about it...there's lots of information available now because of the possiblity of a pandemic. If someone you know belongs to AARP, one of your sources could be a report in this month's AARP Magazine (with Robin Williams on the cover) by a foremost flu expert. Best of luck with your report.
