I was wondering what the next step would be in closing down a known puppy mill. City and State have both been involved with this person, but have had absolutely no luck in closing her down, PETA has stepped in and got the IRS involved thinking that would help, no such luck. We have had undercover people go in and document the things going on plus dates, people have went as far as getting themselves in trouble with the law by stealing the puppies/dogs that were in desperate need of medical attention. It is sickening to watch these animals suffer, people come unaware or buy via internet and end up paying money out the butt for sick animals, the animals mostly dogs of different breeds are suffering daily. This is in West Virginia. We have had no luck in closing her down, I need information on a next step if anyone is invoved in this I hope you can help as I stated City, State, PETA, IRS involved, but no luck can you help?

Yes, they are in violation sir/madame..They have 7-8 dogs per pen in a small pen, they dispose of dogs who can no longer breed, take tractors to dig holes, dump the bodies, cover them up, etc..there are dogs who bark non stop, who have to fight for their food, dogs who lie in slop, feces, urine, puppies who have been burnt and scalded by heating lamps that have fallen on them, I also worked undercover, PETA was a last resort, these animals are SUFFERING! Do you know that USDA takes forever in resolving these cases, something needs done now, she has been in buisness since I was a small child and I am now 32. Humane Shelters have stepped in but in all actuality there hands are tied right at this moment, This place is like a fort, when she gets information which she always does and you have to give notice of your intent if you are investigating she has trucks come in and take animals out or denies access to her property, this is no joke. This lady is a quack!

you need to report them to the USDA (dep of agriculture) as the mills are under USDA durisdiction.
Theres not much your city or state can do if the mill is still adhering to USDA standards, so usda are the best people to contact!

Frustrating isn't it?? Have you contacted the AKC or UKC? Sometimes they can be a BIG help. IF her dogs are AKC or UKC(any of them) you can contact them and they will make her hand over records, and will do an inspection. It will take some time, like every other agency, but I have had some luck that way. If she is using another registry, (APRI, WKC) it won't work though.

BUT, if she is using a non-reputable registry, you can put ads in the papers she advertises in, and run down the registry. It won't help the dogs she has, but may hurt her pocket book. Be careful what you say, don't run HER down, but general puppy buying info is fair game. Talk about genetic testing, titles, crappy/fake registries, any info that will educate buyers.

You can also set up an anti-puppy mill site with one letter diffrent than her "kennel" name. I did that for one place, and got hit after hit.

Picketing can work, but make sure you get news coverage if you go that route. Public opionion is strong on this subject, but people have to know about it. Find out about trespassing and public display laws before you take this step. You want the news to cover you picketing, not you being arrested! If you have any tapes of dogs suffering at her place, give them to the news! It is amazing how quickly a DA will get off his can after that stuff is seen on the news! Suddenly all kinds of options come up! Plus, the news will show stuff that has been illegally gotten, they can't use it in court, but that won't stop the news!

Good luck to you, I hope you can get something done. It is a hard, heartbreaking thing to do, but someday you will get satisfaction!

EVERY state has abuse and neglect laws. If they were in violation of them they would have the authority to shut the place down, obviously, they must not be in violation.

Why would you involve PeTA? They will just kill them. *I* am sickened by people paying money out the butt to give the ARs when they just use it to kill animals.

Call the USDA and see if they are registered with them. If they are, USDA has very strict guidelines for the facility and they should be inspected.

Contact your ASPCA they should be able to help. Don't take no for an answer. If you have to get a bunch of people to start picketing outside of this "business" then do so. Don't let another dog/puppy suffer. Thank you for doing something to try to stop this kind of abuse.

Call the ASPCA or your local HUMANE SOCIETY. You may want to contact some rescue groups. PETA is a political orginization that believes that non of us should have pets.
