I think any effort to unite Canada, the United States, and Mexico is a futile effort, and one that may be advantageous to Mexico, but would be detrimental to both the United States and Canada. Yes, Mexico can benefit immensely from merging with the United States, and for its citizens to have free reign to work in our country without the encumbrance of labor laws that preclude illegal aliens from high skilled labor. However, places like Canada and the United States would suffer from Mexico’s rampant corruption and criminality; maladies which are too pervasive to be rooted out simply by erasing our borders.

Even if you take Mexico out of the equation, the melding of Canadian and US cultures will only create friction. The US’s predominately conservative culture which is pro-war, and anti-social service, stands in stark contrast to Canadian pacifism, environmentalism, and its long standing tradition of social welfare. The political facets of both the US and Canada are too inimical to ever join forces.

The borders that demarcate one country from another are there for a reason. It behooves us all to maintain them. If the notion of Republica del Norte is truly being entertained by the powers that be, then it is Imperialism at its worst and most idiotic.

Es verdad.

Republic of the North was created by the 'war reparations'.
The US 'won' 2/3's or is it 1/3? of Mexico. States like California, Oregon, Arizona, Texas, etc

NAFTA can be considered an additon of Canada and Mexico in a limited sense.

Imperialistic? Depends what you mean by that. Do people(or groups of people) with better resources, skills, or tools ultimately overwhelm and absorb their neighbors? Yes.

With the multiple Islamic states uniting(against us), India and China growing, Europeans uniting THEN the desire of a unified US led Norte America does seem possible...

So train your children to speak another language(Spanish) AND their children to speak Chinese!

I don't think that there will ever be a Republica del Norte. The U.S. has enough problems with Mexican immigration without "taking on" that poor and undeveloped country. Canadians would never give up their allegiance to Queen Elizabeth of England to willingly join our " American Republic".

It will never happen.

Hypothetically, if it ever did, it would not be called some spanish name anyway. Since both the USA and Canada are ENGLISH speaking nations, and the combined land mass of Canada and the USA is FAR larger than Mexico.
Most likely, in the event that ever happened, it would be called "The United States of America", with Canadian provences and all Mexican states becoming new states in the U.S.A.

In the immediate, it would benefit Mexico more than Canada or USA. In the long run, it would be good for all. However, we cannot consider it until USA can endure the financial strain. We are bankrupt from funding war in Iraq.

I think it is a globalist concept to benefit the exact same people NAFTA benefits.

Would you be one of them?

I am absolutely against it. I don't think that sort of thing is possible when one of the parties has such a lower system of services for its poor. Universal education and health care leap to mind. The US and Canada have their own benefits problems with aging populations and certainly can't afford to add the poor of Mexico and their indigent parents to already sinking social programs.

IT IS NOT AN ADVANTAGE TO MEXICO...

IF YOU MEAN THE POPULATION.

IS AN ADVANTAGE FOR RICH PEOPLE IN ALL THE COUNTRIES
THEY ARE WHO GETS THE BENEFITS, NOT THE PEOPLE OF ANY OF THE 3 COUNTRIES.

I think its a bad idea, the states have a hard enough time assimilating to american ideas, this would only make it worse.
