I am 56 and have been coloring my hair since I was 19 years old because of premature graying. Now I want to grow out to my natural color as I dont like all the chemicals that I have to use every month. I get my hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks and hope I can get through the grow out period. Any suggestions?

I know it's still coloring, but you can try a fine weave of highlights through the top to help blend the outgrowth more. That way you dont get the line. It looks better than just letting it go.

Maybe you can do one more coloring to a light color that is kind of grayish so the color-difference won't be as noticeable during that period.

Or maybe you can shampoo the heck out of your hair and get most of the coloring gone so the colored part goes back to gray where the new gray part will match well.
