I was wanting to start taking Yoga, I bought a book about it and was really interested, but I don't have time to go to a class. How effective are the DVD's? Has anyone tried them. Also, do you like Yoga and how does it work exactly? Just wondering.

I would start Pilates, not yoga if toning, firming and strengthening is what you're seeking, with the added bonus of weight loss. Yoga has a Buddhist approach and the whole spirituality is tied in with it. If that is what you want, fine, but it leaves you open to forces...know that you are doing more than exercise. The Pilates system is excellent and very similar moves employed, where isometrics are employed, you isolate particular muscles and work with the concept of resistance instead of exertion, as such. I follow the Mari Windsor dvd exercises weekly and they are so effective. Dvd's for me are the way to go. I tried following a book and had to get out of position to go check in the book if my position (!) was correct... :)
You can tell I'm a Pilates fan.

I have a Yoga DVD which I do every other day.

Try Rodney Yee - Yoga for Beginners.

I suffer from migraine headaches so, anytime I get a migraine, I do the Yoga and my headache is gone. and I feel GREAT!
