It can be damaging to the tattoo itself, but not to your health. It will fade your ink, and your once gorgeous piece will look like a squiggly blob! I recommend sunscreen! My tattoo artist recommends a good 45 on my tattoos. But I live no where near the beach. My suggestion is to not spend too much time in the sun. I also try to wear sunscreen anytime I am going to be in the sun for an extended amount of time. Skin cancer is bad! I'd rather be pale and cancer free. :) But to each their own.
Just cover your ink with some decent sunscreen and they'll last alot longer.

The sun can fade a tattoo, no matter how long you've had it. Whether it's healed or not makes no difference. The sun will damage your tattoo. And your other skin, as well.

It's not harmful, just causes fading. Before I go out into the sun, I always get a high spf sunscreen applied to them. My friends hate going out when I do, because they know what they have to do before I leave the house lol.

this is something your artist should have discussed with you.
yes, sun will harm your tattoo...as in make it look bad. the color will fade if you do not keep it covered or put sun block on it. my b/f's tribal tattoo is by far my favorite, but it is so faded from being exposed to the sun with no block or anything on it. he's very upset, and he wants it fixed, so now he has to shell out the money to have it all redone. keep it covered or put on block.

Well doll. If your tattoo is new to your skin then it isn't a good idea to go spend hours in the sun,
but if it is already healed then you are rar'n to go!.
the only thing that the sun will do is fade the tattoo a bit.
but remember always wear sun screen!!!

The sun will definitely fade tattoos, if you must go sunbathing use a block on the tat. I have done this for years and it's worked well.

Usually the damage to tattooes (from the sun) only happens when the tatts are fairly fresh.
