Honestly, everyone is going to have a different opinion on this. I would go with something that has universal appeal while also being one of the bride and groom's favorites. I am having white chocolate cake with raspberry filling on one of the tiers and the same kind of cake with bavarian cream on the top two layers. Remember, this is your day and you should be able to pick your favorite. If you guys like a flavor that others won't like as much, maybe limit that to one of the smaller tiers and have a type of chocolate or white cake on the bigger tiers. Definitely do some cake tasting! It's one of the best parts of the planning.

In 2000 we went to 10 weddings (almost all of our friends got married that year) so we tasted a LOT of cake then. My husband and I both agreed that the best cake out of all of them was a white wedding cake that came from Wal-Mart. It was beautiful, and way more moist than a lot of the expensive bakery ones at the other weddings!

I tasted my friend's cake and it was so moist and delicious. Most wedding cakes are dry and bland. So I hired that lady to do my cake. I wish I could say that I enjoyed it, but I only had one small bite. There was a bunch of cake left over, but they forgot to save me & hubby some. We kept the top and froze it (per tradition) but after being frozen for a year, it tastes awful. I'd say, eat the top when you get back from the honeymoon so you can enjoy it.

Oh - mine was white cake with filling. The top layer had a lemon cream filling and the middle layers had raspberry filling or vanilla cream filling. The icing was buttercream.

I just went to a wedding this weekend that had an awsome cake...It was marble cake (choc/vanilla) with a mocha filling and the white buttercream frosting had a hint of peppermint to it. Out of Control!!!

I also like the one served at my own wedding (of course!) It was chocolate cake with raspberry filling and covered in white chocolate ganache. :) Ganache tastes soooo much better than fondant, and gives the same smooth look.

I went to a wedding on Saturday and they had the best wedding cake I had tasted it was a traditional fruit cake but it was moist and you could taste the brandy. The icing and marzipan was the right texture too, it wasn't too hard. Just perfect.

I had a three tier cake. The bottom was vanilla, the middle chocolate, and the top was spice. Now, my husband and I cut the spice (in the freezer for our first anniversary), it was absolute heaven!!! Everyone else got choclate and vanilla and they said it was great.

I went to one wedding where they had a white cake (vanilla I assume) and a raspberry filling inbetween the layers. That was really good also.

almond flavor cake with buttercream frosting. Cakes By Linda in northern virginia did the cake for my sister's wedding, and it was so good (very rich though) that I used the same baker to do my cake.

fondant frosting looks pretty on wedding cakes -- very smooth looking -- but tastes like paste. yuk!

We had a carrot cake at my wedding and it was so good! We weren't able to save the top tier, but both my brother and my hubby and I took some cake to eat the next few days.

Recently, at my friend's wedding, they had a cinamin swirl cake that was really good. My hubby and I had several pieces of it!

The best was a peach vanilla cake at a friend's wedding.

Yes it tasted as great as it looked. Lemon cake with fresh strawberries and the other layer was passion fruit cake with fresh blueberries. YUM! :)
