It is a relatively new religion formed by the Pennsylvanian Dutch (really German-Swiss).
Here is a good source of info on the sect. Very interesting. I would take a billion Amish over just one born again. (less of a headache)

Amish is a type of people who choose to live in a way that does not use modern technology. (this is a very simple explanation)

Some of those Amish women are total babes too. When they are young adults they are allowed to go live among "the English" (what Irish Travellers call the "Country Folk," and what you and I call "us.") and they can wear modern clothes, drink beer, get some action, whatever, then it is their choice to return or not return to the Amish lifestyle - most of them do return, but it is because they have not slept with me.
Alas, I have been the ruin of many a fine young Amish babe. Months later, they're darning my socks or cobbling me a pair of boots and they start crying "Bawwww...wilst thou permit me to return to mine home?" And I yell "shut up, and churn some more butter!" But we love each other, we really do...

It is a denomination within Christianity.
They don't beleive in modern way of life.

German in origin, descendants of the menonites. They still speak German in their colonies.
I got a hold of some of their heirloom tomato seeds... Delicious!
