use gel. straightening iron damages the hair if used often. or just blow it after wash and apply gel or mousse. wavy hair is nice in its own way!
remember to moisturise your hair. it may be lack of moisture that makes it stubborn!

i have naturally curly hair, and have all of my life.. the easiest and lest damaging is to accept it as it is... i use frizz-eze or any other serum based gel, just a bit...... and i let it dry naturally..... any time i try 2 do something different, it never looks as nice....... get a cut u like and can work with..... then embrace those waves!!

You can always put a straightening perm in it, use flat irons. You should also avoid sweating, misty air, or rain.
