unlikely anyone will steal the doors

Because absent minded people used to walk off with the pens, but, when they tired to walk off with the doors, the hinges attached to the sides of the door openings stopped them and also the doors were so big the absent minded people wouldn't suddenly think; "gosh, I almost walked off with the doors to the bank, I must be absent minded...but I bet these door is worth more money than the pens they have here."

I would think that its not so much that they are worried about people stealing pens, its that they want to make sure one stays at the counter at all times so they aren't constantly having to find one for the customer. It makes it more convenient for the customer to not have to ask for a pen, and allows the teller to worry about doing her job, rather than searching for a pen.

The doors are left open to invite customers inside while pens are chained so no one can steal them !!!!!

People have to get into the bank there smart guy; and once they're in the bank doesn't want you to steal their pens. Think these things out once in a while.

They are the Masters of penny pinching, and will not tolerate the expense of letting customers have a cheap pen. LOL.

lmfao! a good one... well they're suppose to community oriented (but we know banks aren't anymore) but they don't want you taking their pens though you send them the money to store it, invest it then charge you to death because you aren't fulfilling an agreement you signed on the dotted line for.. so you better not take their pens.. they need them for more fools to give them their money!

can't sign a bad contract with many clauses without those pens ya know!
