He swore to look help and protect all her her Majesty's subjects regardless of race colour or creed, with out bias. What did he think he had joined. Yes most of the blame lies with the senior management team for pandering to some one like they have. It would certainly be very different a white officer had made a similar request. I think this officer needs to think seriously whether he is the right job and the SMT need to take a reality check and grow a pair

You have some good points there - many of which I agree with - HOWEVER, again, we are only reading the side of the story that the PRESS/MEDIA wish to present to us in a bid to sell more papers!
Sadly, we rarely know the FULL facts and therefore CANNOT judge fairly and only on a "knee jerk" action!
But how many coppers out there now can say they don't want to do a particular duty because it goes against their beliefs or principles??????
And his superiors allowed him to be excused this duty - although he did ask - perhaps it is THEM who should be sacked for allowing his request!!!!!

Since when was it the British way to sack someone just for making a request? After reading the quality of answers posted on this topic, I only hope anyone from outside the UK doesn't get the idea that all British people are intollerant, ignorant bigots. I'm a police officer and I have heard people request a change of duties for all kinds of reasons, if they are half reasonable requests the service does what it can to uphold them. I doubt that this officer got his wish just because he was a muslim. I'm sitting at home writing this because I asked for a day off to wait in for the gas man... what conspiracy can you think up for that one?

I think it should be his senior officer who agreed should be sacked. He should consider if he has chosen the right career. If he had been a Christian who lost family in the war then decided not to stand outside the German Embassy he would have been in real trouble. Lets face it we have given so much away to the Muslims we have no way back.

NEGLET OF HIS PUBLIC DUTY!!!
That is what he has done. As a police officer you are there to protect life and property wheter it is associated with whites, asians, chinese, jamaicans or any other ethinic minority group. Respect diversity is the key issue to which he hasnt doen.
If he doesnt want to do it he should resign or be reassigned to desk duties. Just thinking though, if he was put on the front desk of a police station and a white person comes in he would probably get away with saying "i don't want to deal with him.He is white".
What a joke and he puts shame on the British police force.

Whilst I agree people are intitled to there opinions as a serving Police officer he has been sworn in to protect and serve all citizens or people under the protection United Kingdom.
police officer cannot and should not be able to dictate who they protect.
Black Police officers have sometime had to protect Racist scum who are due in court. They do this because the law states this.

He had the personnel choice as to guarding the embassy. IRAN AND IRAQ have been at war for years and if he was made to stand guard over the embassy who says that some one from the might have tried to take a pop at him to cause a crisis with the British government. So he made sure he didn't give them the excuse to do so. Good on Him for standing up for him self its a shame he had to risk his job to do so.

I wondered who would be the first to indulge in a bit of Muslim bashing, and get the racist mob out.
In this case, while Israel was bombing Lebanese civilians, it was insensitive to ask an officer with family in Lebanon to guard the Israeli embassy. When superior officers were informed, they did a risk assessment and felt that to deploy this officer elsewhere was the right operational decision. To leave this man guarding the Israeli Embassy at a time when there was likely to be Palestinian and Lebanese protest outside would have made this officer, as a Muslim, an obvious target.
Unfortunately, some stupid people can't see that disapproving of Israel's aggressive policies towards Lebanon is not the same as anti-Semitism. Some of us can loathe Israel's attitude to its neighbours and hate the anti-Semite at the same time.
You are a bloody disgrace, and should be ashamed that you took the first opportunity you could to stir up our resident racists on Yahoo Answers.

I agree, there were no safety issues in his placement, how could there be, it's not as if the people in the Israeli embassy were going to say, 'Oi, look, a Muslim's protecting us! Lets get him!'. I cannot think of any reasonable danger, even if it was obvious of his religion/ethnicity. I think he had morals that he put ahead of his job and oath to protect the citizens.
What's more, said morals were probably 'I don't like Jews, and they don't like me'.
I mean, it'd be like a serviceman in Ireland during the IRA campaigns, who happened to be catholic, refusing to protect a protestant town.
This has gone far beyond political correctness now, and is getting into the realms of discrimination.
