I also have a Lhasa Apso and he does that once in awhile. I think it's called hot spots. If he does that till he gets a sore, you can buy hot spot medication for dogs at places like Petco.

It's probably allergies. It's really common with the breed. I would definitely go to the vet to make sure that the chewed places aren't getting infected. Even if they aren't, your dog might need a week or two of antibiotics to keep infection at bay while you get the itching under control. Your vet can also give you an antihistamine if it is allergies, or tell you the appropriate dosage of human medication for your dog (mine used to take children's benadryl). Your vet might also prescribe a steroid for short term relief. When I had the problem with my dog I also found that, in addition to medication, daily epsom salt soaks helped, as did using Veterinarian's Best Hot Spot Itch Relief Spray once a day. The spray is made with tea tree oil, so it doesn't smell great, but it's all natural and it really works. You can get it at Petsmart and probably other pet stores as well. I hope some of this helps and that your dog feels better soon. Good luck!

He probably has harvest mites, difficult to spot. The mites live mainly between the dogs toes in small crevices or up the dogs legs. They look like paprika powder. If this is the case, he will stop biting within the next week or two as the mites die off naturally in colder weather. They live on blades of grass and using flea killer doesnt work as they only live on the dog for one day anyway.

Causes of iching on skin
-flea allergy ( in take take just 1 flea in some dogs)
-skin allergys- can be to anything in the environment and hard to determine the exact cause
-chewing around the back end can be a sign of anal gland problems(get a vet to check)
i'd get a vet to check they could give more detailed advise. go to a vet id thereis hair loss or and inlamed or infected looking skin underneath

My Yorkie did that. I changed to a special shampoo that must be bought online. It is expensive but worth it. It lasts forever and also the vet prescribed allergy meds. They are inexpensive. They made all the difference. Here is the link below for the shampoo and items. I swear by it. Great stuff. And no, I'm not associated with the company.

It could be that he has hot spots.
Or I know of a yorkie that did it because she was a very nervous dog who would chew her leg when she was feeling stress.

It sounds like hot spots. My dog has gotten them before and chewed her legs raw. The vet gave medication for it and told us to cover it so she couldn't get to it. HTH

alot of dogs chew out of bordom. Try giving him something else to chew. Or try spraying his legs with bitter apple.
