It means you are his and he is not yours. He wants you to be his lover but not his love. And by calling it a relationship you are bound to him and no other, and by saying nothing serious he is free to roam about the female population. And if he finds someone else or cheats, in his mind you cant really be mad at him because he told you up front nothing serious.
Yet some say this because they are affraid and then find out they want you seriouslly after all. See the relation ship for what it is, then decide what your move will be. Just dont allow him to use you. Your a woman with feelings, not a saloon girl making a pay day.
It really depends, but most of the time it's the first one. My advice is to be careful.

Have you asked him? Maybe he has been badly burnt and just wants to go slow sometimes us women can be pretty pushy as long as you enjoy each others company why does it matter...and if your looking for marriage maybe hes just not the one for you.Have fun and enjoy your life we dont get a second shot at it

He wants you only when it's convient for him. He wants you on call, and because he doesn't want it to be "serious" that gives him the freedom to do whatever he wants.
