How can a parent beat their child to the point of breaking bones?

i've just run a focus group on some children accessing social services. one of them was an eight yr old girl, with a serious blackeye and a badly broken leg, her case worker told me she'd been used as a punch bag for a while...

how? why? could somebody explain as i really don't understand at all. i'm seriously lost for words.

i was 7 when my older brother phoned the police after a particularly sevre beating, including almost killing my 6month old younger brother.
ever since i have wondered England trying every place im dropped to find the answer to the question "why?"
i often had broken bones, but i was never taken to hospital, i never went to school, and it was only on very rare occassions that any neighbour thought to phone the police for thinkin they heard children crying, they never found us, or never bothered to assess the house, they took everything my parents told them and left again.
the only conclusion i have ever come up with is mentally unstable. if you do find a reason, i would love to know what it is, for until i do i dont think i can ever put my past behind me.

It's the law in this country (USA) that any adult who observes child abuse must report it to the appropriate authorities. Usually the Division of Youth and Family Services is the appropriate agency to launch an investigation. If her case worker has not reported this then she is negligent and an accessory to a crime. Tell her to report this immediately!

A person who does that to a child should be strung up and whipped. Personally i think they are bullies, all smiley and two-faced in front of others but the biggest bullies in the world. Yellow-bellied cowards. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

i do not understand how people do this i am a mum and my job is to protect my children from harm no matter what i would go to the end of the earth to protect my children and if any one tried to hurt them i think i would do time it is a pointless sad disgusting thing to do to a defenceless child

because who ever did this to her is a callous evil cowardly bastard, who don't deserve to have children and should be doctored....this child should be removed from this family permanently, she is in grave danger of this happening again, the poor little soul...i hope the SS have removed her so she can go somewhere safe, with people who will love and take care of her, children cannot defend themselves from evil cowardly adults, she needs to get away from this hateful animal...also the animal who did this to her should be locked up for good....i get angry when i see things like this.....give me 5 minutes in a room with one of these scum bags..i would soon sort them out...

because the parent is a big spoilt selfish bully, that can't control their temper. this sounds terrible but some people really shouldn't be allowed to have kids I think an IQ and means test should be passed before people can have kids.

See I can't answer your question either.......I would die under anyone who came near my kid...so imagine being the one they are scarred of!!!

These parents are worse than people who harm someone elses kids as they brought these babies into the world just to make their lives miserable....I can't understand their mentality, nor do I want to...they should be lined up and shot!

I can't help but cry whenever I hear stories of child abuse. People who do this should be tied to a tree and stoned to death! I need to go hug my kids now.
