My daughter does the same thing, but she passes out. She has since she was 3 months old. My doctor has told me that holding their breath and passing out will not hurt them. It just scares the crap out of you. Try blowing in his face when he does this, sometimes that stops it. If not, just hold him and keep talking to him. She's three now and the last episode happened about 6 months ago. It happened quite often however when she was learning to walk, because she would fall, and get crying. Relax, lots of kids do this. Just keep a good eye on him when he starts. Good luck to you!

I'm quite sure it is normal ,it scared me when my first daughter did that , but by the second child I did what the Dr. sec jested, she was crying till she turned all kinds of colours so I put her Head under running weather and that socked her right out of it and she has never had crying fit like that since, (shes 10now)but with the first child I would walk her and baby the action and she still has those temper fits of screaming and trying to get her own way (she is 30now )so if the child is not hurt and crying like that you have to sock them back weather it be with water or tickling there feet something to bring them out of that ,hope that helps wy

Yes, it's normal that children his age do that, but it's not good for him to go with out oxygen to the point he turns colors. Encourage him to breath, even though he's upset and crying. My 2yr old does it also, and I just pat h im on the back, and say: Breeeeath Elijah, it's okay, Breeeeath! Your clam, motherly voice will sooth him ,and help him relax and breath. Good luck!

How old is your son? That information would of helped..if he's older its probably just an extremely bad temper and he's trying to get as much attention as possible. If your'e son is a baby/infant maybe go and speak to the doctor and have his heart checked..just to make sure....I have 2 children who've had heart issues...neither one diagnosed at birth...you can be too carefull nowadays with these kids! Good luck...

it's normal for a baby to turn purple if it stops or restrains from breathing, obviously. But I don't think it's normal for a baby to turn purple whenever he cries. I have a niece who once turned purple when she cried and we were alarmed to see that she started to drift out of consciousness. we applied some sort of accupuncture in the middle of her thumb and forefinger, which i'm so glad to say that brought color back to her. well, she's 11 months at that time...
well, take good care with your baby... God bless..

Your son is terrorising you. Talk to a doctor and if he says its ok, just let him passout.
My niece use to do something similar with eating until the doctor told my sister most 3 year olds don't volunteerily starve themselves. She'll eat eventually, just not candy and cake. It took two days of no food and 13 years later that girl will try anything you put infront of her.

I had a nephew who did that when he was little. He would actually pass out (stubborn little tyke). It scared us to death. But the doctor said it was his way of rebelling and if he passes out, then he will breathe. And to just ignore him. He had a few more episodes and then stopped. He is an adult now and doing great.

Yes, my daughter would throw such tantrums that she would turn blue and pass out. When I spoke to her pediatrician about this I was told it was harmless and that she would catch her breath as soon as she relaxed(passing out!). Learning better coping skills helped her grow out of this. If you are still concerned, or if you feel this is a seizure, you should of course call your pediatrician.
