Think it just depends on the person. Myself would have to wait 6 hours. However, I know lots of people who caffeine has no affect on whatsoever so it wouldn't matter. Test on yourself to see.
Good question.

Actually, everyone metabolizes caffeine at different rates. Some days I can have a cup of coffee and go right to sleep. Other times if I have coffee after 6 pm my mind stays active and I have trouble falling asleep.
To find out, do your own experiments (when you don't need a full night's sleep) and figure out for yourself what your tolerance is.
Similarly, people who drink more caffeine have a higher tolerance than people who drink no caffeine.

I guesssing before sleep. You need 5-6 hours to get caffiene out of your system. The half life on caffiene is normally 3-4 hours in healthy folks, but can be dramatically longer for people with health problems of on medications.

Weird i just read about this!
..it says that we should avoid caffeine(coffee...etc) after 4PM everyday....if not the effect will make you stay awake, active and hard to get sleep (insomia)
