YES!
I don't mind their faith in God, I mind the blindness and stupidity it causes them. That the universe is 12-15 billion years old is a fact, as is the earth being about 4.5 billion, as is life being about 3.5 billion, as is the fact all life on the planet is the unbroken chain all the way back to the first cell or cells via evolution.
Think about this. The ancient semetic (pre-jewish) people were OBSESSED with origins -- one would introduce himself as the child of his parents and his grandparents (and more, if known) when introducing himself formally... and informally would still include at least his parents. Why do you think geneologies are so prominent in the Bible?
So the semitic people are wandering around and demanding to know their own origins. So moses goes up the mountain and says, "Hey God. Um, not to question you or anything, but we've got a growing mutiny on our hands. How'd you do ... well, I guess, all THIS," and gestures around as if to indicate the universe.
What do you think Moses would have done if God had said, "Well, first you need to start with the inflaton. It's a scalar quantum field that oscillates around a zero point such that the sum total remains zero -- in essence, it is the platonic ideal of the zero-point energy. If the oscillation exceeds a certain critical value, the local minima or maxima expands faster than the uncertainty principle can compensate, creating a universe with laws dependant upon the particular collapse of the vacuum energy of the oscillation..."
Moses could not have understood such a description. So, God told moses a story. "I did this, I did that, then I smiled and realized, hey, I'm good, it's good, we're all good. I created you, and that's your origins." Moses can understand this, and understands the truth that 'god created'.
I don't understand why some christians are such literalists. They claim Jesus was(is) God. Jesus loved parables. Why then would God not use a parable when talking to Moses about truths too vast for moses to understand?

I'd have an easier time with Christians if they'd quit trying to convert the rest of the world into their fantasy land. I don't want to hear about their religion, and I wish they'd accept that and STOP with the preaching.

I would have an easier time with Christians if they weren't actively promoting and championing willful ignorance, codified stupidity and self-delusion as a matter of policy.

All Christians do not "adhere to literalism". While we believe everything that happens in the Bible is true, when you start concentrating on "Why" God did what he did instead of "How" God did what he did, you begin to understand a whole lot more.

That would make it better... The biggest problem is having legislation for everyone based on religion instead of reason... I'm talking to you George W. Bush.

I'm an atheist and my only issue is political.
I really don't care what people choose to believe so long as they don't try to impose a theocratic Nazi government on the US.

If they were more tolerant and kept out of politics I would have no problem with any of their beliefs.
