Windows Media Player should able play all MPEG format. They are not related to Itune either. Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 is an Windows Vista version for playing music.

ive been using the wmp11 beta for a while with no problems whatsoever ,it does play mp4 if you have the codecs on your pc ,maybe from another piece of software ,if not when you go to play the file it will say you need to download the correct codec and redirect you to te download location ...no problems

QTFairUse for ITunes will allow you to convert protected m4p format files purchased in the iTunes Music Store to unprotected m4a files, playable everywhere.
