It is never safe to be in any research program. You have to remember the reason why they are research is because NO ONE knows how any of the medication will affect you.also if you have medicines alot of the time you will not be told what the strenth is and that is a problem if you are rushed to the hospital at 3am and that doctor is trying to get a hold of the research program to find out what you are on but can not contact them. If you are gonna do a research program do it because you want to help others with bipolar in the future. Also a problem because no doc knows what the medicine is about because it is a research medicine.Never do it because you want to improve your health or mental well being because there is a chance that the medicine they put you on will not work, make you worst or even have serious side effects. Also when they give you medicine they will leave you on a medicine for weeks and just when you start feeling better they will decrease the strenth of the medicine or switch you to different medicine to see what effects it has on you so you will never feel better like you want to.Just rememeber research programs are to see what medicines causes cancer, death, and alot of other things and what medicines works.they are there to make you feel better. They could care a less how you feel. They are there to research and thats it.

i'm sorry about people's negative opinion of researchers, but how the hell are they supposed to make a better drug if they can't test it on people who need it? If I find an alzhemimer drug you bet i'd want to test it on people who need it. there is always a possibility it won't work for any or all of the participants, but thats part of the process. the human body is very complex and though we have great models nothing comes close to testing it on humans (except animals but i'm not going there).

As for you talk to the researchers. they do have a screening process and if you feel comfortable it's worth trying
