It is true as far as human perceptions, based on the exact sciences of measurement and approximations, can humanly perceive.

Look at the way a virus mutates (evolves) to a different strain in order to resist new treatments... this is evolution that takes place in the short span of a human life. Evolution is also proven through the fossil record. Honestly I don't see how anyone could reasonably argue that evolution is NOT true.

There is much scientific evidence that the following is true, frozen in rocks and fossils.

Millions of years ago simple life (just one celled organisms) started on Earth. The origin of that simple life is not well understood. If you want to say a higher power did that, that's fine, nothing in science contradicts it.

Over time simple life became more complex. More complex life was able to deal with its' surroundings better (getting food and reproducing) so it kept getting more complex. That's evolution.

We did not evolve from apes. Apes and us had a common ancestor, one who lived many thousands of years ago. We're branches off the same tree trunk.

Science can tell us a lot about the details of the evolutionary process where simple life became more complex. But as to how simple life started at all, science has no definitive answer.

There's no conflict between most people's religion and evolution. Or between science and most people's religion. Religious fundamentalists and scientific fundamentalists want to fight. Most of us should not join in.

First of all, in science, Evolutionary Theory (theory meaning workable explanation for all the facts we observe) refers only to species evolving in to other species. It has nothing to do with how life started, or the big bang or anything else.

Secondly, it is not a scientists job to consider God. God is outside of science by the definition of Science. Science has nothing to say about God and never will do.

Now we say that evolution is true because there is just overwhelming evidence for it, and no genuine evidence against it. Scientists have no need to 'believe' evolution is true. In fact it would be a career making opportunity to find real evidence against it, or a possible competing scientific theory. Yet in the fields of science related to evolution, 99% of scientists believe evolution to be true (a few religious fundamentalists don't based on faith). There is simply no other possible SCIENTIFIC theory which can account for all the facts we observe, and all the predictions we are able to make based on it.

Now you are free to believe what you like. Science has nothing to do with religion, and religion nothing to do with science. You can say that what we see as evolution, is how God created the world, or whatever. You can deny evolution point blank. That is your business.

But you have no right to trample on science, in the same way that a scientist has no right to trample on religion. The two are separate.

It is the only explantion of how various species of animals and plants came to be in the form we see them in today. There is no other explanation for how this has happened. With a fossil record that indicates that species (similar to ones we see today) changed over time, together with DNA evidence that it is possible for species to change over time and the mechanics of natural selection which we can see working on a day to day basis, it is an overwhelmingly clear explanation of how species came to look like they do now. Any other explantions that have been offerered so far have little or no evidence or explanation to them. Thats how we can say evolution is true.

That is like saying how can you tell that an adult came from a baby? Well, because you can see a clear progression. You can see a baby, an infant, a toddler, a teenager and an adult. You can see how they have grown and developed over time. You don't have to watch the whole process but instead find examples of each step and you will see a logic progression.

The only people who deny that it is true are those who have not bothered to look at the available data by reading legitimate scientific treatments of the subject instead of religious treatments of it. No, I am not "anti-religion". I am active in my church, and my religion is the principle guiding force in my life; but my religion does not try to dictate what scientific evidence I can accept and what I must reject. That isn't the place of a religion or of a church.

Observations, studies, research, experiments and logical thought. All have been done by scientists to support evolution. Evolution has happened, scientists know that.

Because it has been observed!

Just recently, there is a finch with a particularly large beak that went into an area where only smaller birds with large beaks (used to break large seeds) used to be. Faced with that competition, the smaller bird evolved to have smaller beaks to get to smaller seeds the larger beak (on them AND of the competing bird) did not allow them to access. The birds evolved and changed in real time!
