The guitar's roots are in Spain. It does not trace back further than the 15th century. It is thought that the people of Malaga first invented it. The ukulele was derived from the guitar. Francisco Tarrega, at the end of the 19th century, resurrected the guitar back into the favorite instruments of the people. Manual Torres reconstructed the guitar from a narrow fragile instrument into a more heavily built and better sounding instrument. He was known as the "Father of the Modern Guitar." Andres Segovia performed, taught, and discovered a lot of music. He encouraged many composers to write music for the guitar. Segovia was the first person ever to perform music in a concert hall. Before Andres Segovia, people did not think this was possible. Leo Fender invented the first electric guitar and the electric bass guitar.
