Hi Everyone, I have a wedding to go to tomorrow night. Went dress shopping and found a really nice dress. The wedding is tomorrow at a really fancy hall by the water. Now Im wondering if the dress I picked is too dressy. Whats appropriate for a Friday Night Wedding? Any links to pictures would be greatly appreciated. The dress I bought is a dark blue, lightly decorated top, empire waiste, halter top. It is also floor length.no decorations below the empire waist. Thanks!!

After reading some answers (and THANK YOU FOR THEM) I just wanted to add that yes it is a formal wedding. The only person I really know is the bride. We went to High School together (lost touch for a while then met up a couple yrs ago and became good friends again). Her bridesmaids are in chocolate brown. Thank you again!

A night wedding is very formal so it sounds like your dress is very formal and perfect for this occasion. What you want is a long formal dress. You don't want white (which you don't) So, you are good to go! I wouldn't worry about it!!!!

I found some websites that might help out to give you an idea on some formal gowns:

Hope this helps you out a little bit!

It's not really about the time of day, but rather what type of wedding. Is it a formal or informal wedding? Since they'd decided to have it at night, and at a fancy hall by water, I'd guess that it's a formal wedding. Do you know anyone else that will be attending the wedding? You could compare notes. While the decorations you described on your dress should be fine, I wonder if a floor length is a bit much. You want to look really nice, of course, but you don't want to be dressed better than the bridemaids or bride. Did they have something in a tea length? Good luck, and have fun.

Night time weddings are more formal than afternoon weddings. And morning weddings are the most casual. You can wear a semi formal dress with glitter in the evening. Long or short is okay for evening. Your dress sounds fine. Just make sure you cover up cleavage in the church or temple, if you go there. Wear a jacket or shawl in a house of worship. For the reception the halter top is fine.

Sounds very nice to me. Dress according to the invitation. Since it's at a really fancy hall, I take it that it is a very formal place. So your dress should be fine. Have a good time!

Formal, at night, means a long gown, which you've bought. And it's best to NOT wear white, black, or red.

All the other details about the wedding colors and stuff is *completely* beside the point.

I think that sounds gorgeous! I agree with the wrap/shawl totally. Plus those are still in style. My mom always told me it's better to err on the side over-dressing rather than be underdressed for a function. Go and have a blast!

the same rules for dress apply to a Friday wedding s they do for a Saturday one. also you mentioned that it is a a "fancy hall by the water", well then I doubt your dress is too fancy.

Sounds appropriate for a nice wedding. Now, if it was a casual wedding, you'd be too formal.

Have a good time.
