I agree, your TV simply picks up the best/ strongest signal. I used to live in Lincolnshire but it always picked up Yorkshire ITV because it found it the best one. If you have sky/ NTL/ cable then you can pick up different variations of BBC- they can be found right at the bottom of the channel lisings.

Get Sky digital and you can select which BBC or ITV area you watch via the menu

You can't. You get the signal from the nearest transmitter, no choice about it.
The only exception is that if you watch the BBC on Sky you get a London signal, even as far north as Yorkshire.

You cant. You TV picks up the station automatically, you only get the one that is closest to you

get freeview and they show the regional variations from about channel 800 onwards.
