defininitely try embellishing it with small flower beds, metal bells and ribbon....or...try finding a very small grapevine wreath (4-5 inches in diameter), affix the R to it and then fill the wreath and base of the letter with flowers that go with your wedding...try curling tiny strands of grapevine wreath in it as well...Or have your cake decorator do an incredible base for it out of frosting...try taking it to the floral department of a craft store (Michaels or AC Moore) and seeing what they might be able to suggest....they are used to doing floral centerpiece type of work and may have more ideas to jazz it up...i actually was going to get a "C" cake topper for my wedding (coming up in three weeks) but i made a fake one just to see what it would be like and it looked awkward....
