since God does not exist outside a person's own mind.

God exists only as a concept, it has no physical or tangible existence.

CPT Atheist:

Thanks, but don't let it get to you. Life's too short to take any of this seriously.

One reason I like to offer provocative questions is so Christians can demonstrate their true nature.

It seems they aren't much different than anyone else. And the God they invented doesn't seem to help them very much, if at all.

My dog has better manners than some Christians.

Oh, well. No sense worrying about it.

Yes, in the literal sense God exists. However in reality, which is what JT is talking about...

It is very true that religion is man-made and man maintained. The religious books were man written by you guessed it men. Therefore to make the followers feel superior to the animal kingdom, they believe that we were created in God's image, thus better. This lends to the assumption that God has the attributes of human form. Why is He were superior, does he have the flaws of the human form? The answer to this would be so that the religious community can recognize Him when they see Him, if they see Him.

Yes, you're a negative and hateful man, JT.

Why can't you just believe the story of Peter Pan like everyone else? Why are you such a TERRIBLE person!!!????

(The answers I'm reading this morning are really pissing me off. Christians, I find you utterly repulsive. And rather than allow you to ruin my day with your ignorant, prejudiced, and hateful nonsense, I am taking the day off.)

This was a fine question, though, JT. It's a shame you talk over so many people's heads.

Most of the ancient deities were undoubtedly invented by the people, they illustrate the failings and passions of humanity in all the myths and legends of them. I especially enjoyed reading in Pritchard's anthology of ancient near eastern writings about a general piece of advice when people are perplexed as to which god is causing their immediate troubles: offer a drink offering of beer to the male deity, a wine offering to the female deity, and a milk offering to the infant deity and hope that it satiates each of them to give you some relief for a time.

The fascinating thing of ancient Israel's deity, He was aloof from the crowd. Sacrifices were not to feed Him. His feasts were not ones of moral abandon. His demands were not dangerous or devastating in terms of human lives--there were no virgins sacrificed or babies burned, just animals and those for recognition of specific and personal wrongs, usually failings of humans against other humans. Israel's deity demanded recognition of His holiness--His distance and distinction away from capricious anger and excess. And Israel's deity demanded no image--while the gods of all the rest of early civilization were essentially trying to outdo each other in their pictoral or statuary representations.

The German schools of theology of around a century ago followed two things that were in contemporary vogue: the secular scientific momentum characterized by Darwin, and the racist elitism which culminated in Hitler's mobilization of a supposed 'master race'. The chronology of the Bible was revisited and redefined because when comparing the writing of various documents over the various periods of antiquity, the Hebrew (and Christian) writings were centuries ahead of their contemporaries--surely mere Jews could not have done that, so they had to have been written AFTER non-Jews had progressed in literary technique or popular perceptions.

For most of what the world calls god, I would say that you are absolutely right. For the Judeo-Christian God, I distinctly differ, because He is different.

Look around you, everything, everything, was given to man due to his mind. Everything came from a thought. A dream,
your world, it must very lonely,
Not having a thought come from God, and him giving your means to make it reality.
That key board did not just show up one day. That mouse, did not just appear, someone had a thought, had the idea to produce it, and then its a reality. Same method God uses.

Reality is,
God gave everyone a seed a faith. Its up to the person how much water they use on it to make it grow.
Some pull it up before it can even grow. Others, kill it by their own images in there own minds.

Look around you and you will see God all around. EVery thing you see is the creation and beauty of God. Why are you such a negative and hateful man? I am greatful that I do not have hate in my heart but the Love of God who's son Jesus delivered me from such hatred and negativity.

If you say God does not exist where did the feeling of guilt come from? You are very wrong, I have seen the miraculous and I KNOW THAT GOD IS REAL.

There's no way to prove something like that does or doesn't exist. So really, your stance is the same as them.... putting out opinion as fact. ^_^

Of course there are other alternatives. It is possible that you're wrong. Besides, why do you care so much what other people believe?
