It is going to ultimately come down to what you make of it. I served in the Army on active duty from 1987-1995. It is a much different world now than it was back then. Listen to me, I say back then as if it were 50 yrs ago. Anyway, I found it overall to be a rewarding experience. Made many friends, got to travel all over Europe and had a blast. I was an MP. I can only comment on how it was back then, before we were fighting camel jockies all over the world. If you go in now, you will be deployed over in the desert shortly after basic training and they will rotate you in and out of there every year. I don't even recognize the Army anymore compared to the way it was when I was in it has changed soooooo much. If you want to go I thank you for serving our country, but don't get in there and puss out like that one dude did here on Ft. Knox the other day. Remember, we are at WAR now, and you will be used for that purpose to your fullest potential. The days of going into the military for 3 years to earn a little college money and not have to do shizit for it are LONG GONE my man. So with that being said, good luck my friend and may the force be with you!!!

That is a very difficult question. How do you know that you want to join the army. You should talk to recruiters from each service to find which service is the best fit for you. How long do you want to be in service. I have found some sites for you to check. I hope that they help. Take care.

It's tough and if you have family it's going to be harder. But I know for my husband and our family it's been worth it. He loves the army (he's infantry) and it's made it where I can stay home with the kids and not have to worry about our money situation (of course that part would depend on how you manage money) I've met alot of people that really like it but by the same token there are plenty of people who go AWOL and have to get hunted down too. If I were you I'd enlist for the lowest amount of time til you know for sure it's what you want to do. Good luck!

Ultimately, it depends on what you want to gain from the Army (or military in general).

I joined for the college money, a great job, the ticket out of the place I was in, and the chance to serve my country.

It has provided me with a steady job, experience, both job and life, and the right to say that I have done things that I had never dreamed of doing before.

No, unless of course you're suicidal and/or have a deathwish. Just about ANYTHING else would be a safer career field. I don't know how all these recruiter wanna-be's posted on here but they're all full of sh_t. Only describing the pro's not the con's... for the most part. If you're foreign you can become a citizen... if you survive Iraq or if you die they'll award it to you posthumously... making a big political ceremony out of you just like Bush did on the 5-year anniversary of 9/11 (I'm sure the victim's families just loved watching that speech). So, if you want to die/live the rest of your life minus one or more limbs... than by all means join, just remember to leave your braincells at the door before you get your head shaved and become another sheep for Bush.

If you do not have a felony or a criminal record, if you are healthy and have no health problems, if you can take orders and discipline and you are mentally fit, then military life is for you. You would have to go to the nearest US Army Recruiter and they will be very helpful in giving you all of the information about the US Army Military life in general. Good Luck!!!!!!

Hi,
I have a few friends who went to navy after college. He is quite happy. I know some people who are grumpy too. It really depends on the person you are. There is not a one right answer for everyone. I know this is not very helpful, but thats the way it is.

One thing I have realised after the movie "Shawshank Redemption" is that Fear can hold you prisioner, Hope can set you free. Don't be afraid. Do what you feel is good for you.

Please don't pay attention to the negative replies on here. That just stems from pure ignorance.

I can tell you that I've been married to a soldier for 18 years. It's a hard life at times, but it's a damn good life. You just have to look inside yourself and decide if it's right for you. No matter what anyone says here, that's where it ultimately comes from.

You'll have a chance to travel and see things you might not ever see. You'll be able to go to college. There's honor and pride in the military. If you stay in, it's a good retirement, usually at a young age. The benefits are good, not great, but alot less worries than the civilian world. I can tell you more, but you have to look inside and see for yourself.

Good luck and thanks for your willingness to serve!!

The Best thing to do is go to Basic Training. I did, as I was not sure whether it would suit me, but once you complete it you then have the option to carry on or leave. Just see what happens and give me an email if you want to ask any questions!
