all types of alcohol can cause blindness depending on how your body reacts and how it breaksit down. In particular methanol which can not be broken down completely and effeciently. And actually it is not the methanol itself but FORMALDAHYDE that forms as a biproduct that has toxic effects on the retina.

methanol is the alcohol most associated with causing blindness. It is also refered to as "wood" alcohol. "Beverage" alcohol is ethanol also refered to as "grain" alcohol. Excessive ethanol consumption is associated with a form of vision loss. This amblyopia is actually thought to be caused by accompanying malnutrition. I would suspect that other more complex alcohols such as the propanols, butanols, etc. could also cause vision loss.
