I am sorry but you need to go to the Doc simply because the medications used to treat this bacteria are prescription ones. UTIs are treated with antibacterial drugs. The choice of drug and length of treatment depend on the patient's history and the urine tests that identify the offending bacteria. The sensitivity test is especially useful in helping the doctor select the most effective drug. The drugs most often used to treat routine, uncomplicated UTIs are trimethoprim (Trimpex), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra, Cotrim), amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox, Wymox), nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Furadantin), and ampicillin (Omnipen, Polycillin, Principen, Totacillin). A class of drugs called quinolones includes four drugs approved in recent years for treating UTI. These drugs include ofloxacin (Floxin), norfloxacin (Noroxin), ciprofloxacin (Cipro), and trovafloxin (Trovan).

Home Treatment
You may be able to cure an early urinary tract infection (UTI) if you act promptly when you have the first symptoms of a UTI, such as pain and burning with urination. Home treatment steps that may stop an infection from progressing include:
Drinking lots of water, along with cranberry juice, especially during the first 24 hours after your symptoms appear. This will help make the urine less concentrated and wash out the infection-causing bacteria. This may alter some of your body's normal defense mechanisms, but most doctors recommend drinking a lot of fluids when you have a UTI.
Urinating frequently and completely to empty your bladder each time.
To relieve pain, take a hot bath or lay a heating pad over your genital area. Never go to sleep with a heating pad in place.
Self-treatment of recurrent UTIs
If you are a woman who has frequent uncomplicated UTIs, your doctor may write a standing prescription for antibiotics to take if you develop symptoms of a UTI. If you and your doctor agree to follow this approach and you develop symptoms that you are certain are caused by a UTI, follow your doctor's instructions for taking the medication and monitoring your symptoms. Be sure to notify your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if you start having UTIs more often than in the past.

My roommate had one.. she realized what it was monday.. she decided to go in friday if it wasn't gone... Friday she called the doctor and they told her to drink cranberry juice, frozen cranberries and things like that until monday and go in monday if it wasn't gone. By saturday night she couldn't handle any more cranberry, and she was in some serious pain for the entire week. Her stomach and her UT couldn't handle it anymore... You pretty much have to take antibiotics but you can try cranberries... and get yourself some advil too, yoiu'll be needing it. Plus you'll have to pee like a million times. Dont leave it tooo long before you go to the doctor. Get in as soon as you can. My roommate only knew she had hers a week and they told her she came in just in time, another couple of days and there could have been some serious consequinces.

You really should go to the doc if you have a UTI because they can damage the urinary system and are indicators of other conditons like pregnancy and diabetes. Howeve, if you are determined not to go (and know that youare not pregnant) try this:
1) AZO standard--available OTC--truns your pee funny colors, but helps 2) drink 100% cranberryjuice 3) Drink LOTS of water
4) cut out carbonated drinks and tea. Hope you feel better soon.

I agree with the cranberry juice and drinking lots of water, but I also use AZO when a UTI occurs. Do what you can to prevent them, too! Wipe from front to back...common cause is poop getting into your urethra..just a teeny bit is enough bacteria to cause a UTI..also. DO NOT HOLD pee in!!! When you gota go, GO THEN! That's another common cause. I have that terrible habit of holding...goin' to the bathroom just is a pain in the butt to me, and I tend to hold it forever, but force myself to get up n go asap, now...I think that's a huge problem causing my UTI's. siiiiiiiigh....But AZO totally works along with the liquids. Good luck.....nothin' hurts worse!!!!! aaaargh!

You cant, but until you get to the doctor drink cranberry juice (not cocktail too much sugar) drink lots of water as well. Stay away from coffee and tea. You can also try ibuprofen as well for pain and discomfort.

I just asked a similar question not too long ago. I have always been told to drink ALOT of cranberry juice and alot of water. I was also told to take cranberry suppliments while drinking the juice and water. I know this sh*t sucks, doesn't it? I'm sorry - but atleast you know you're not in that boat alone!
