I know soda is not good for you...

I have alot of cavities, and I'm trying to wein myself off of soda...

I work overnight shifts so thats part of the reason why i don't want to just cut it off cold turkey, and I admit I am addicted just as I am addicted to my cigarettes.

So, I'm just wondering if there is ways while i am still drinking soda to make it less abusive to my teeth?

Don't judge me for it, just answer the question if you can.

iT'S NOT THE SUGAR THAT CORRODES ( IT'S NOT THE MAIN THING ANYWAY) -- IT'S THE ACID IN colas THAT CORRODES! Try changing over to Mt Dew if it's the caffine you will miss most. Then cut back to 7up which has less caffine than MT DEW. Snack on RAISINS they help clean acid off the teeth and have a chemical that actually protects teeth. Take a tooth brush to work and use it each break. Go to your dentist and perhaps he can help you by applying a protective shield over your teeth after cleaning them -- YES, THE SHIELDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADULTS NOW !!!!! It might not be real cheap, but dentures: smell, are EMBARRASSING, HURT YOUR MOUTH SO BAD SOME PEOPLE HAVE EVEN DONE THEMSELVES IN DUE TO DENTURE PAIN!!! So go get your teeth taken care of and pay by the monthly payment plan if you have to!!!! Your teeth can even cause heart problems !!!! No Joke !!!1 And with so much sugar in your diet keep a yearly test done for DIABETES !!!!! Eat: apples, carrotts, broccolli, peanuts, mixed nuts, and whole graains for your life long health and a long life!!!!! Shield those teeth asap !!!!!! Your friend! Vote me best answer if my answer rated best with you! Thanks!!!

Well you should definintely start drinking soda with a straw. That's what I do. And to help with the cavities judt try diet soda's. But make sure you try all differnet types of diet soda because most of the time they taste the same but not always so dont judge the soda by the first sip and remember to use that sraw and just brush your teeth. This will definintly help you teeth before you go to far!!!!!

Well Mountain Dew is the worst that you can drink, I would try Coke or Pepsi. It has a little less sugar and caffiene then MD. Also take a toothbrush with you to work and brush your teeth on your breaks, that would help more than anything. Also get a chewing gum that cleans your teeth. Other than that the only other way is to quite drinking it all together. You could take up drinking Coffee.

According to my daughter's oral surgeon when she had her consultation to have jaw surgery asked her if she drank soda. He told her that daily he pulls whole mouthful of beautiful teenagers who have destroyed their teeth with soda. He told her that mountain dew is just like drinking battery acid to the teeth. That is melts the enamel right off and brushing even immediately doesn't help much. Also 7-up is awful too as the citrus acid is highly erosive. He said that diet root beer is the safest soda there is. But if one must drink soda then diet cola is best but to try and rinse immediately with water after consuming it and to use a straw.

Yes. Too much soda isn't really good for your teeth. If you can't give it up you could probably help yourself enormously by drinking it through a straw - making sure it misses your teeth completely. lol :-)

Drinking everything through a straw is the best. That way it doesn't touch to much of your teeth and gum. At least that's what my dental hygienist said. Good luck!

Use a straw and stick in the back of your mouth when you suck, that way, the soda will not get on your teeth.

You need to continue to muster enough mental strength to stop soda first. It would be only after that the real long term benefits of subsequent dental treatments can be enjoyed, lest you continue to earn money only to see it making your dentist(s) happy.
