I'm in desperate need of a good haircut. My last one was at the beginning of my third trimester and my daughter is now almost 4 months old if that gives you an idea of how long it's been. Is it okay to take her into a salon with me? Will the smell of the chemicals hurt her in any way? I'm sure the odors will bother her but I just want to make sure they won't harm her.

I understand your concern. But, dear, I really don't think a salon is a good place to take a baby, for her sake, the other customers, and yourself. Getting your hair cut should be a relaxing experience for you. The baby might be fussy, and this could be distracting for the other patrons, and the hair stylist. And most importantly, the chemical odors might affect your little daughter negatively, or the strange sights and sounds could be disturbing for her. Why not leave her with a trusted friend or relative while you have your hair cut? You can bring her to a salon when she's much older, and you both can appreciate the quality time spent together as mom and daughter. If it were me, that's what I would do.

It might be a more relaxing experience for you if you could leave your child with someone while you go for a haircut. I don't think a four month old should be exposed to the possibly toxic chemicals that permeate all salons.. Remember her lungs are underdeveloped and a lot less able to absorb/handle harsh chemical smells. Do her a favor and leave her home.

I really would not take her to the salon because of the chemicals. The hair stylist don't like when people take their children into salons because it makes them nervous if there is allot of crying or disruption. I would be more concerned because of the chemicals though. I totally agree with the person above me. Congradulations on your new baby and God bless.

She will be fine to take with you- as long as she can sit in her carrier or stroller while you are being cut. If you think that you will need to hold her at any point of your appointment I would take someone with you or find a babysitter. You will be in and out before the smell would matter. You aren't pouring the chemicals on her...the smell will blend in within 5 minutes of being there anyway.

I would not recommend taking her, if you have anyone who can babysit while you go, that would be best. Her respiratory system isn't mature enough yet to handle the chemicals. The smell is caused by tiny airborne particles that will get into her lungs, and possibly cause harm.

I would not take your baby to a salon due to the smell of chemicals from perms and such.
