First off try the tutorials if you used the default installation there at "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Help"
Look for files "Tips and tricks, At a glance & New Featchers and Highlights". print them out and start working with them.
Next subscribe to some of the magizines out there who catter to Adobe photoshop like Adobe Photoshop focus Guide ( just can't get enough of that one)
Adobe Photoshop is a BIG program, it takes years to get to know and you'll always be finding things you didn't know it would do.But with in a day or so you'll be getting the basics down.

There's a series of manuals from Peachpit Press called The Visual Quickstart series. Amazon and others have them. It is unlike other books in that it does not walk you thru exercises, like a classroom, but has an excellent index which you use to answer specific questions you have. You can find out in a few steps how to vignette a shot, how to produce halftone dot effect like an old poster or magazine, how to use controls to alter only one color in a photo, and so on.
When I first started working with Photoshop, I bought a copy of this book right away. It helped immensely, filling in the gaps in my actual hands-on practice by answering specific questions as they came up.
Good luck.

I'd say go get a manual at the bookstore. A magazine will generally assume you already know a good bit about the program. I have one from a publisher called SAMS: Teach Yourself in 24 Hours, which is for Photoshop 7, but I think I saw one for CS2 in the store. This one was $25 in paperback.
Good luck! You will have a lot of fun with it once you get used to it.

Try VTC on line learning.
It teaches so many on line courses. I did Adobe Photo shop CS and recently CS2 through them.
It teaches you all the short cuts and handy tricks.
Look on line here:

To REALLY understand it, you're not going to get what you need out of a few magazine articles. I highly recommend you take PS classes. I took photography and advanced PS classes at my community college for a reasonable fee, and I am amazed what I can do now with PS!
