A ripe pineapple should feel soft when pressed on its bottom end. If it is very squashy then it is over-ripe.

This is a great question as I have half of one in my fridge thats been there for a few days, and I'm not sure whether it is good or not and I don't want to go to all the hassle of cutting it into bits only to find out its bad!!
