I have 24 kids coming to a party on Saturday, average age 6. I have bought those food boxes instead of plates with the idea of filling them up in advance and having them ready on the table, but other than a finger sarnie I'm struggling with ideas of what to fill them with. Anyone got any good suggestions for yummy bits that won't go soggy too quickly that will impress a bunch of fussy 6yo's??

Pin Wheel Sandwiches ... Roll out the bread slices with a rolling pin, and put a slice of thin ham on a slice, and then roll it up ... cut into bite size pieces ... kids love these.

Home made easy pizza, bread rolls cut in half, topped with tomato sauce with herbs, and cheese (or any other topping that takes your fancy).

Cocktail sausages on a stick with either cheese, pineapple, pickled onion.

Plenty of crisps and biccies.

I love all the ideas here, maybe just pick a couple from different people. One thing I can guarantee is nobody is going to be talking about the chicken nuggets, or pizza the next day, so I wouldn't spend a lot of time on food presentation at that age.. All the kids are REALLY there to party and just have fun! The games is WAY more important to them. They are going to be sooo excited to get the fun going some probably won't even eat, (just a few bites) Then they will start the running! Have Fun! I've been there and done that w/my 2 kids:)

A few ideas:
1) make some crepes (you don't need many) and spread some cream cheese (such as quark) with chopped chive, a slice of ham then roll and slice (as you do for sushi) to obtain nice looking whirls. You can use a toothpick to keep the end properly sealed. 2) Small kebabs made with cherry tomatoes, cheese cubes, tiny sausages or ham cubes.
3) potato tortilla, cut into cubes
4) savoury or sweet biscuits
5) kebabs of mixed fruit
6) savoury or sweet muffins
7) yogurt and fruit smoothie already portioned in small cups

I think that with kids, the simpler, the better. All above ideas should be prepared in advance (the tortilla will taste better). The crepes should be made the day before and be assembled on the day of the party.

Taquitos were always a popular item with my daughter at that age. Still are actually. They usually come in a big box in the grocer's freezer all you have to do is bake them and cut them in half to make more manageable.

Pizza Rolls are a big hit too.

I think I read someone suggesting prawns, I'd shy away from that due to possible allergies.

Fruit is always a good option, apple slices, berries, pineapple chunks.

Cheese cubes are good especially with some crackers and sliced pepperoni. My own child can make a meal out of that trio.

If you fancy the healthy route - carrot batons and celery bits with some tasty dips are always good. Apple slices as well. Anything crunchy always goes down well. Home made crisps (made from sweet potatoes as well as normal ones, and other root veggies) are great. Try home made mini pizza's using a cut up bread stick, spreading some tomato sauce, cheese, and little bits of ham, or pineapple etc.... it can end up being quite cheap as well..... doesn't matter if its at room temperature as well.

Jelly and icecream though is an old favourite and you can't beat it!

I wouldn't fill a 6 year olds plate (or "box") in advance. You never know what they will like. some change tastes from day to day.
Anyway, little mini corndogs, grapes, fruit of anykind, little sandwiches (don't put any mayo or anything on them, let them add that if they want) veggies like carrot sticks, chicken strips. I would order a couple of pizzas. one peperoni and one plain cheese ( or maybe 2 of each for that many kids) and call it done. you can have fruit or veggies on the side and cake. don't forget the cake.

Chicken nuggets (make your own with chicken breasts cut into nugget sized pieces, dipped in egg then breadcrumbs and crushed crisps, then ovenbake or shallow fry - simple, nutritious and delicious.
Other ideas - sausage rolls, cocktail suasages, pizza cut into thin slices, most kids like an assortment of fruit cut into handy sized pieces, and the usual crisps, biscuits and cakes.

I always find that 'hedgehogs go down a storm', you know cocktail sticks with small cocktail or hot-dog sausagescubes of mild cheese (most kids luv Edam), cherry tom's, pineapple chunks or baby pickled onions, just watch they don't start stabbing each other with the sticks!!

I had a party where I served plates of PB & J, chips and a juice box. How about pizza bagels, mini pigs in blanket, carrot sticks, raisins, cheese cubes & crackers....etc.

Fill them up in advance? I would not do that. Kids like different things when it comes to sandwiches so I would not do that.

I always found ordering pizza easy and I'm pretty sure everyone likes pizza.

Let the kids fill their own boxes, and have lots of fresh fruit and vegetables like carrot, baby corn, mange tout, as well as sandwiches cut in interesting shapes.
