How Does Western Union Work

To answer your question, it can be done electronically. You can give them your credit card number and charge it to your account. Yes, they do tack on about 7-8 percent. They are up front about the charges. They will tell you how much the person on the other end will receive in what ever currency you choose. Thai Baht or US Dollars. Go to www.westernunion.com and follow the directions. You can also look up the closest bank that will handle western union transactions for them. There are many banks in Bangkok so, there should be one close to whomever you are sending it to. Not sure outside of Bangkok. The person picking up the money needs a confirmation number that you give them and their identification card to pick up the funds. It's actually very simple.

Now, maybe it's not any of my business. If this is for a woman and you already know her background. Then excuse me, I won't say anything more.

If this is a woman you met online and have verified who she is and her background. Don't, it's you and a half dozen other guys sending her money. It's a racket there and many other poorer countries.

Good luck

It is a simple wire transfer. Deposit money at any Western Union office, fill out the paperwork, and the money is immediately (within seconds) available at any Western Union representative worldwide. I have used them hundreds of times without a problem. You can also transfer money online by using a credit card. www.westernunion.com

Western Union is too expensive. I would recomend Money Gram.
It is just as fast and much cheaper. They have many local offices. If you are transfering a large amount, over $ 10,000.00. I would recomend a bank to bank wire transfer. At my bank it is a flat $ 45.00 fee for any amount.

To use Western Union, just call, give your credit card number, amount to send, name of person to send to, and it is available in minutes, in the other country. The charge to send increase with the amount sent. You can call to get the charge for an amount to send. It is an 800 number call.

You go to your local western union service (look for signs at local stores), you tell them you want to wire a certain amount of cash to someone and they have you fill out a paper. The paper asks the Name, Address of the person your sending it to as well at the name of the western union they are using to get the money. You can choose a password to give your friend so they can pick it up. There is a fee for the service based on whatever amount of money you send. Your friend goes to their western union fills out a form giving their information and yours as well and they pick up a check.

I did this some years ago and they really ripped me off on the exchange rate - - I paid 15% I think to transfer the money - in other words, I gave them $115 - my friend was to recieive $100 but because they messed w/the exchange rate, my firend only got the equivalent of $75..

I think they were succesfully sued and maybe forced to stop this type of rip off practice.. but ask how many baht the person will get here and take a minute and do the math.. good luck
