I KNOW the best thing to do is to go to the doctor, but I want to know other ways I could get better.

I've had this now for years... I just want to know what I can do to make it go away..... It's so annoying sometimes!

Also, I know some answerers really want to answer questions that they don't know how to answer. Like, I've seen answers to this type of question before saying "Exercise for a while! That always works!" Well, NOT for chronic constipation. Chronic, in case someone doesn't know, means long-term.

Thanks in advance to helpful answers :-)

You may not want to go see a doctor but did you know that chronic constipation can lead to an enlarged colon?????? My granddaughter had chronic constipation and the doctor gave her some meds that really cleaned her out. Now she isnt bloated and in pain and wont have to have surgery to repair her colon.

Aside from ready to speak for your health practitioner, you would take a look at a couple of matters. Adding fiber can aid, as can a well enzyme elaborate and/or probiotics. The most important drawback is that there are a couple of matters that may rationale constipation, bloating, and water retention. It would be partly as a result of mistaken digestion (wherein case enzymes could aid to collapse the meals you don't seem to be digesting good ample), now not ample fiber ("counting carbs" would possibly not allot for ample fiber, and side of that may additionally rely on which enzymes are for your belly), mistaken intestinal plant life (which could be the probiotics, the well micro organism for your intestines that aid the absorption of vitamins and minerals amongst different matters), or probably simply now not ample water (if you're sweating out and making use of up extra water than you're taking in, the constipation would be from dehydration). Your health practitioner (assuming he is well ample that he does not wish to only throw a few medications at you) must be competent to examine what is taking place and recommend a kind of 3 to aid matters waft smoother. If not anything else, take a look at including any or all the matters that I recounted, as none of them could negatively have an effect on your nutrition/pastime regiment while taken correctly (the fiber might have an effect on your nutrition in the event you simply consume chips or crackers, but when you're taking an insoluble fiber, it should not have an effect on it negatively in any respect). In any case, well good fortune, and I desire you discover rapid comfort... I know the way painful and worrying that may be.

F-I-B-E-R. Take a powder fiber with every drink. They have a powder that dissolves in any liquid or wet food. That would be a first step. On that note, increasing your intake of fruits and veggies is also going to help because they contain fiber and will also help you get the nutrients your body needs.

I know you said don't say exercise, but really that IS proven to stimulate the colon and produce bowel movements. Really physical exercise, not just walking.

Laxatives will help get excess waste out of your intestines for a short period. Use a suppository. That way you don't have to taste anything unpleasant. I know it sounds horrible, but you don't feel anything except your butt sucking the 'pill' into your rectum. That produces a bowel movement within 15 minutes.

If after all these fail, you should see your doctor. That way, when you do see him, you can tell him that you have tried all of these things with no success. You may have to have a scope to help the doctor see what is going on internally.

"Chronic" is my middle name! OK, here's my personal list of suggestions:

(A) Be sure you're drinking PLENTY of water every day. Your body needs moisture in order to keep things moving and if, um, the feces is too dry and impacted then it is part of the problem.

(B) Be sure you're getting enough essential fatty acids (EFA's) in your diet. If you're not, take a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement. Seriously, I saw an improvement after I started taking EFA's daily. The naturopathic doctor that recommended it said it helps lubricate the intestine so things will flow smoothly.

(C) Make sure your electrolytes are properly balanced. I was also suffering muscle spasms/cramps/"charley horses" and started taking magnesium to help with that. The unexpected but great reaction was it helped me become more regular.

They say to take plenty of fiber. That didn't work for me. Sometimes it made things worse.

Over the years, my parents had noticed certain foods seem to help me. (Yeah, it's CHRONIC, I've had these problems since I was a baby! And, back then, Mom gave me Fletcher's Castoria which is nasty tasting.)

For example, eating corn or bananas helps me.

I hope this helps and good luck! I know what you're going through! I've tried many, many products over the years and most were a waste of money or so nasty tasting that I wouldn't wish them on anybody. Hang in there, you'll find something that works for you!

Okay, honestly, if this has been a problem for you for years, you really do need to get to a doctor! What is the reason for not going? Do you have a fear of doctors or a bad experience?

Evaluate what foods you are eating. Some will bind you up, while others (pizza hut for me) work better than a laxative...Speaking of that, have you considered taking those? Are you getting you fruits, vegetables, fiber,, etc? Drinking enough water?

1) A well-balanced diet high in fibre (good sources of fibre include wholegrain cereals, fruits, vegetables and legumes.)
2) Drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
3) Hot beverages, such as coffee, tea or hot water may stimulate bowel movements.
4) Regular exercise to improves digestion .
5)The intake of foods such as milk, cheese, white rice, white flour and red meat should be restricted, because they tend to contribute to constipation.
6) bulk-forming laxatives, or well-lubricated glycerin suppositories.
I hope that will help you.

Since yours is chronic, and since most of us don't know the meaning of chronic. Thank you for your definition.

So since "Exercise for a while! That always works!" answer wouldn't help your anal retentiveness.

Your best bet would be to Exercise LONGER! That works long-term.

Try some physillium(not sure about the spelling). You are supposed to mix it with water, it tastes better you you put a little juice in with it, make sure you follow the instructions to drink a lot of water afterwards. Pick it up at health food stores or drug stores. Good Luck.
