First, I extend my sympathies to you on your loss. The death of a young person from any cause is tragic, and he looks like he had a zest for life from the picture.
I don't think God has any particular prejudice about "painted people", but rather is concerned with what was in his heart instead of on his skin. THAT is the key to heaven!
However, anyone who is stabbed 7 times, unless they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, just passing through a place, was very likely engaging in a lifestyle which is far from God's laws. Most 27 YO men aren't murdered, and particularly not in such a close, personal violent manner as a stabbing. Your likely closeness to such a lifestyle that would permit such a stabbing should give you great pause, great impetus to examine your own life and goals.

I don't think the tats can be the reason for his death. The tats reflect lifestyle choice or attitude. If your bf was so angry at the world and wanted to take the world out I would think he was putting himself into bad situations. This has nothing to do with tattoos or God but about someone making a bad choice and committing a violent act against him. I am sorry for your pain.

First, sorry about your loss...
From that point on though, unless he planned his death, its just one amazing coincidence. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but its the truth.
As far as the eternal rest goes...I'm an atheist, so I can't provide much support here. I do know that historically, the taboos were established for both health and conversion reasons. Pagans had the most tattooing rituals, and therefore the church deemed it wrong to be tattooed.

lovely picture .. he has the same cross as my husband has
i dont feel there is a connection at all
i feel tatoos are a way that people see themself and wish to portray themself to others
i have 3 tatoos ... one is a scorpion which is my star sign
the other is a native american arm band which represents my love for the culture
the other is a beautiful purple fairy .. which is how i wish to appear to others ... magical and spiritual
given these tattoos .. i am either going to be stung by a scorpion , strangled by a native american arm band or bumping into a fairy and being concussed lol
since i live in the Uk the first two seem very unlikely ... im not sure about the fairy though lol

I Call It The Culture Of Death.
Tattoos come from pagan culture going back Thousands of Years. They had a spiritual connotation and were used to show devotion to the spirit, or god to which the wearer worshiped. Today it is also a part of Prison/Gang culture, and continues some of the same spiritual connotations as the pagan Tattoos did.
The earlier history, which we see repeated in Today's culture, is why God forbade Israel to practice Tattooing in Leviticus.
These Tattoos have with them connection to the spirit world, the spiritual forces of Satan can, and will involve themselves with those who are in this culture of Tattooing.
It looks to me that your boy friend invited Satanic forces into his life even if he didn't mean to, he spoke it, and he received it.
(Death and life are in the power of the tongue:
and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.)
Proverbs 18:21

Perhaps more along the lines of the lifestyle he pursued and his own personality.
I have a guy at work with a pari of barbed wire tattoos and he's still doing OK.

It isn't the nature of his tattoos that gave rise to the irony of his death... it was the nature in his heart. His rebellion, his anger, his self-interests... he projected them onto his body instead of allowing them to remain unseen within his heart.
You reap what you sow. He sowed anger within his heart... and hence, it is no surprise that he reaped it as well.

I don't believe in having tattoos. There could be some kind of demonic link to them. And this would probably be a "life style" problem.
